Carpenter
The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Carpenter/Handyman participates in the maintenance and repairs of the plant and environs.
Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:
Oversee the selection of construction raw materials to specify type, quantity of required materials, create a layout for construction using tools such as rules and pencils.
Read and interpret blueprints for a structural concept.
Measure, cut, and shape wood materials using tapes, saws, and chisels etc.
Assemble and join structural components with the aid of nails, screws, or adhesives
Build framework, Sheetrock, finishing work, erecting metal stud walls, small roofing repair work.
Perform new construction, concrete foundations, layout framing, formwork, roofing, fiberglass framing, scaffolding erecting, drywall and general carpentry, tiling work and plaster repair, site preparation through fine finish.
General labour practices, carpentry, masonry, cement pouring, floors, painting, cleanup, Bobcat and forklift operation and other duties as assigned.
General building and grounds maintenance including outdoor and fencing.
Maintain and organize outside storage areas, conduct building inspections and audits.
Follow establish safety rules and regulations as specified by MLF, maintain a safe and clean work environment.
All other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring:
Red seal Carpenter journeyman certificate.
Minimum 2 years industrial experience (food industry preferred) well developed industrial troubleshooting capabilities
Ability to carry out manual tasks, physically fit. Heavy lifting maybe required
Meticulousness, people skills, resourcefulness
Like challenges, detail oriented and able to work under pressure
Ability to work rotating shifts, including night shift
Available for weekend overtime as production demands require
Sense of urgency and attention to detail
Safety conscious
Ability to work well in a team environment
Basic computer ability coupled with strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
