ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Employee Relations Manager is a strategic and trusted advisor across multiple business units and Leadership Teams, establishing rapport and strong credibility with business leaders to provide effective coaching and guidance. The ER Manager conducts investigations for the Canadian Stores organization and provide project management support on key initiatives, while developing a deep understanding of our overarching people and culture strategies, objectives and compliance obligations and maintaining an understanding of how our stores organization operates. This role also plays a key role in helping Sephora Canada continually improve our position as a great place to work.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Employee Relations:
Investigate and resolve complex and critical colleague complaints, issues, and concerns
Partner with loss prevention teams to investigate potential losses involving employees
Ensure employee relations issues are addressed in accordance with employment laws and our values to drive engagement and protect our brand
Document cases: write investigation summary, scan/type notes, and leverage case management tool
Develop, communicate, and implement employee relations programs, policies, and procedures
Use data to identify trends and develop proactive strategies to cultivate positive employee relations
Re-imagine and define how we address performance concerns and terminations across the company by looking at principles, people, processes, and technology
Provide advice and mentorship to HR Managers, leaders and managers on serious ER issues, and act as a point of escalation
People and Culture Strategy:
Cultivate our culture and core values to bring them to life while collaborating with colleagues, and identifying and implementing new guidelines and/or learning programs across the organization
Build positive relationships with all levels of management, HR Managers, and Loss Prevention
Act as a people and culture champion and change agent
Develop and cultivate relationships across the HR function
Project Management:
Strategic HR project management on new or evolving initiatives (case management solution, metrics and data analysis)
Lead, implement, and execute key people and culture strategies, practices, and programs; including ensuring that the appropriate people, communication, education and change management are in place to support program delivery
Research and implement project plans and develop into program management
Build and implement consistent practices and processes to ensure fair and consistent approach to employee relations matters
Proactively engage cross functional teams to develop solutions that support the business
Build and bring improved data insights to HR Managers and the business overall
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
5+ years of HR Management experience, with at least 2 years of experience working in an Employee Relations role within a high-growth environment
Bachelor’s Degree; Human Resources certification is preferred (e.g. CHRL)
Expertise across the majority areas of ER, including Investigations, policy creation, documentation standards, performance management, employment laws, ethics and compliance, partnership with employment law
Knowledge of the full employee and HR lifecycle (talent acquisition, total rewards, learning, leadership development, talent and succession management, retention, engagement, culture, and operations)
Understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues and how they apply to employee relations
Strong coaching, strategic advisory, conflict resolution and facilitation skills
Proven success in applying innovative thinking, data-driven and a growth mindset to challenging issues resulting in high impact outcomes
Strong influencing and negotiation skills with ability to present a clear and strategic point-of-view to senior management while being able to defend and articulate the thought process and rationale behind recommendations
Familiarity with HR related technology and tools/case management, preferable Workday, ServiceNow and Smartsheet
Project and program management skills with the ability to communicate, drive and deliver cross functional programs to a successful outcome
Ability to think critically and anticipate issues before they arise, and proactively suggest long-term solutions to a variety of stakeholders, including HRMs, legal, business leaders
Excellent judgment and a high bar for integrity
Outstanding attention to detail and discipline to organize and prioritize
Ability to travel to stores across Canada (approx. 60% travel)
Bilingualism (French/English) is considered an asset
