ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Based at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanic Helper to join our Mobile Maintenance team reporting to the Mine Maintenance Supervisor.  

Detour Lake is the largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potentialThe open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt.The mine is situated in the area of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 22 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.

The Mechanic Helper will be responsible for assisting in the proper maintenance and repair, as well as performing preventative maintenance and operational safety inspections on all applicable equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assist technicians in all shop/field requirements as directed;
  • Ensure all instruments, tools and work areas are maintained in an appropriate manner;
  • Handle various instruments and tools, assisting in maintaining all applicable shop equipment;
  • Assist in performing mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on all mining equipment within the mobile shop and field;
  • Cleaning maintenance equipment and work places as directed;
  • Monitor and maintain records of inventory and supplies.
QUALIFICATIONS

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Grade 12 Diploma or GED;
  • Previous educate or experience in Heavy Duty Techniques program preferred;
  • Mechanically inclined and the aptitude and willingness to learn;
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  • Computer experience considered an assist;
  • Physically fit with the ability/capabilities of lifting fifty pounds (50lbs);
  • Proven commitment to safety, health and environmental best practices;
  • Experience in cross cultural teams is considered an asset.
