Electrician Apprentice
We are seeking a motivated Electrician Apprentice to join our team and gain hands-on experience in an industrial mining environment. This role provides an opportunity to work alongside experienced electricians, developing the skills and knowledge required to support electrical maintenance, installations, troubleshooting, and repairs across the site. The successful candidate will contribute to the safe and efficient operation of electrical systems while progressing through their apprenticeship program.
Key Responsibilities
Area 1:
Electrical maintenance and repairs.
- Assist with troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, equipment, and machinery.
- Support scheduled inspections, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs on electrical components.
- Work with electrical supervisors and journeypersons to diagnose issues and implement solutions.
Area 2:
Installation and commissioning.
- Help install electrical components, wiring, and control systems in accordance with regulations and company standards.
- Participate in commissioning new electrical equipment and ensuring safe functionality.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
Area 3:
Safety and compliance.
- Adhere to all workplace safety procedures and electrical codes.
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and ensure compliance with mine site safety policies.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring all tools and equipment are handled safely.
Area 4:
Learning and development.
- Work towards completing the required hours and training for electrical certification.
- Actively participate in mentorship and training opportunities provided by senior electricians.
- Stay up to date with industry best practices and new electrical technologies.
Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, FORMAL EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS OR EQUIVALENTS
- Enrolled in or eligible for an Electrical Apprenticeship Program.
- High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or college courses in electrical are an asset.
WORK EXPERIENCE - NATURE & LENGTH
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a keen interest in electrical systems.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including working at heights or in confined spaces.
- Basic knowledge of electrical tools and equipment is an asset.
- Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS - COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
- Electrical Knowledge – Understanding of basic electrical principles, wiring, circuits, and troubleshooting.
- Equipment & Tool Proficiency – Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment.
- Blueprint & Schematic Interpretation – Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical documents.
- Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving – Ability to diagnose electrical issues and assist in repairs.
- Preventive Maintenance – Basic understanding of maintenance routines for electrical systems and components.
