Location: Toronto (Scarborough), Ontario, Canada. Hybrid (Office + Remote)
Duration: Summer 2026 (12–16 weeks)
Compensation: $25 per hour, 35 hours per week
Role Overview
Salivan Landscape is a leader in commercial landscaping, and we are looking to the future. We want to find a sharp, observant university student to help us find "small wins" using Artificial Intelligence (AI). Your goal is to study our existing processes, propose how the use of AI improves our labor productivity and client service by automating the "boring stuff," and then designing and implementing AI solutions.
Work Structure
- On-Site (Discovery): You will spend time in our main office shadowing our managers to map out our business processes.
- Remote (Development): You will have the flexibility to build and test AI solutions from home.
- On-Site (Deployment): You will return to the office to show the team how to use your tools and gather feedback.
Key Project Examples
To give you an idea of the impact you’ll have, potential projects include:
- Client Communication Assistant: Developing a tool that helps our office staff instantly draft professional, personalized updates to clients regarding their property status.
- Site Measurement Automation: Using AI/Computer Vision to help managers calculate property square footage from satellite images for faster bidding.
- Weather-Responsive Scheduling: Using AI to analyze weather forecasts and automatically draft suggested schedule adjustments for our crews.
- Smart Maintenance Tracking: Building an AI-assisted log that predicts when equipment (mowers, trucks, blowers) needs service based on usage notes.
Responsibilities
- Observe & Identify: Audit our current office and field workflows to find repetitive manual tasks.
- Build & Automate: Create low-friction tools using LLMs (ChatGPT/Claude) and automation platforms (Zapier/Make).
- Simplify: Ensure every tool you build is easy enough for a non-technical person to use.
- Report: Present a summary of time saved and a roadmap for future AI opportunities.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a degree for Business, Data Analytics, Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Technical Curiosity: Experience with AI prompting and "no-code" automation tools.
- High Empathy: Ability to listen to staff concerns and build solutions that solve their specific frustrations.
- Reliability: Strong self-management skills for remote work days.
Please submit your resume along with a covering letter describing why you are interested and qualified for this role.
