Allied Health Incentive Program
The PEI Allied Health Incentive Program provides incentives to experienced Allied Health Professionals to fill designated hard to recruit vacancies within Health PEI.
Eligibility
Which professions are eligible for the Allied Health Incentive Program?
- Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs)
- Medical Radiation Technologists (MRTs)
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologists
- Respiratory Therapists (RTs)
- Sonographers
- Social Workers
- Pharmacy Technicians
- Pharmacists
- Physiotherapists
- Occupational Therapists
- Dental Hygienists
Psychologists and Midwives are excluded from the Allied Health Recruitment Incentive Program as they are currently covered by other existing return in service recruitment incentive programs.
Which professions are eligible for the Allied Health Incentive Program?
Allied Health Professionals who:
- are legally entitled to work in Canada;
- are eligible for registration with the respective licensing college or registration body in Prince Edward Island; and
- are a new candidate to PEI�s workforce and cannot have worked at Health PEI or another private or public sector employer in PEI within the past two years; and
- have not received a previous incentive.
Incentives
- A one-time financial incentive of $10,000 is available for eligible Allied Health Professionals.
Which professions are eligible for the Allied Health Incentive Program?
Yes, there is a 1,950 working hours return-in-service agreement that must be signed by the applicant and the employer prior to the commencement of work.
Are these incentives taxable?
Yes, all financial incentives offered by the Department of Health and Wellness are taxable. As such, Canada Revenue Agency rules apply to incentive payments.
What high-demand vacancies exist?
These financial only apply to positions designated by Health PEI as hard to recruit. Applicable postings will be clearly identified with incentive language.

Graduate Registered Nurses - Nursing Recruitment Incentive Program
The PEI Nursing Recruitment Incentive Program for Graduate Registered Nurses is an initiative to provide meaningful employment opportunities for recent graduates and to fill vacant Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse positions of Health PEI.
Eligibility
Who is eligible for PEI Nursing Recruitment Incentive Program?
- Students completing the last year of a recognized Canadian Bachelor of Nursing or undergraduate degree program in psychiatric nursing, approved by the College of Registered Nurses and Midwives of PEI, or those completing a full RN Bridging/Re-Entry program;
- Registered nurses or registered psychiatric nurses who have completed a recognized Canadian Bachelor of Nursing program or undergraduate degree program in psychiatric nursing, approved by the College of Registered Nurses and Midwives of PEI, or full RN Bridging/Re-Entry program within the past 24 months;
- Applicants who are eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses and Midwives of Prince Edward Island (CRNMPEI); and
- Applicants who are legally entitled to work in Canada; and
- Applicants must accept a position with Health PEI with a 1.0 FTE or equivalent.
Are students eligible who are enrolled in a Canadian Bachelor of Nursing program in a university outside of PEI?
Yes, students from all recognized Canadian nursing programs are encouraged to apply.
Incentives and Opportunities
- A one-time financial incentive of $8,000 is available effective March 1, 2023. Start date of employment with Health PEI must be January 1, 2023 or later, and a return in service agreement must be signed and approved, with an effective date of January 1, 2023 or later; and
- Permanent status with Health PEI which includes:
- vacation and sick leave benefits,
- health and dental benefits,
- seniority hours, and
- pension benefits.
Is there a return-in-service commitment?
Yes, there is a 3,900 working hours return-in-service agreement that must be signed by the applicant and the employer prior to the commencement of work.
Are these incentives taxable?

Rural Incentive Program
An additional one-time recruitment incentive of $5,000 is available for candidates who accept a 1.0 FTE position outside of Charlottetown.
- 3,900 working hour return-in-service agreement completed simultaneously with the Nursing Recruitment Incentive Program return-in-service agreement.
- Eligible locations include all areas outside of Charlottetown including but not limited to Summerside, Town of Three Rivers, East of Three Rivers and West of Summerside.
Student Loan Incentive Program
A one-time financial incentive of up to $8,000 is available for candidates who accept a 1.0 FTE position within Charlottetown who clearly demonstrate:
- They have a federal Canada Student Loan.
- They are ineligible for the Canada Student Loan Forgiveness for Family Doctors and Nurses program
- They are willing to sign a 3,900 working hour return-in-service agreement.
Application Process
What vacancies exist?
Applicants� stated preferences for work facilities and/or units will be taken into consideration during the assignment process. Applicants will be assigned to vacancies that have been identified by Health PEI.
What is the deadline to apply?
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
Applicants who have yet to complete their program requirements are welcome to apply and will be contacted within ninety (90) days of graduation.
Applicants who have already completed their program requirements within 24 months of applying are also welcome to apply.
When will applicants know if they are eligible for the program?
Successful applicants will be notified during the hiring process whether they are eligible for the incentive program.
What information is required to complete the online application?
You will need to provide the following information to complete the on-line application:
- Personal identity and contact information, including a valid email address.
- Identity and contact information for an alternate individual.
- Academic information including your educational institution, program of study and expected date of completion.
- Canadian residency status.
Do I need to provide references?
Yes, you will need to provide two references who can provide suitable, relevant information about your nursing qualification. One of the references must be your final preceptor. Your other reference may be:
- a preceptor;
- a direct supervisor, or
- a clinical instructor.
