Director of Community Development - Emerging Health Leaders (Calgary) (volunteer 2 year term) - Emerging Health Leaders
Director of Community Development, Emerging Health Leaders (Calgary) (January 2021 - Dec 2022)
The Emerging Health Leaders (EHL) is a national grass-roots non-profit organization that aims to develop emerging health leaders across Canada. Our mission is to provide opportunities to support the development of emerging health leaders through the creation of knowledge exchange networks, educational events, mentoring relationships and informed health care related discussions. EHL targets younger health leaders from a cross section of health employers in the public, private and not-for-profit sector.
The Calgary Node of EHL is hiring a volunteer Director of Community Development for an immediate start. This is a two-year volunteer commitment with monthly 1-hour meetings and 5-20 hrs/month of additional commitment.
The Director of Community Development is responsible for building, maintaining, and developing the EHL community in Calgary and Southern Alberta. This will include building external connections with different organizations and groups such as private organizations, corporate groups, university groups and non-profit organizations, as well as working with our Director of Membership to find new members and ensuring our existing members have a strong sense of community. This executive member will also work closely with the EHL Calgary Co-Chairs, the Director of Events, and the Director of Communications to ensure that EHL is promoted across all areas of healthcare leadership in Calgary and in Southern Alberta.
This is an exciting time to join the EHL team as there are a number of impactful changes that will be rolling out in 2021. Our current exec team is an exceptional group of collaborative go-getters who have big ideas on how we can achieve our goals. You will have opportunities to grow as a leader, make invaluable connections, and try things outside of your comfort zone.
This role will be 100% virtual until the COVID situation has been resolved, and we maintain the health and safety of our team and community as our highest priority.
Responsibilities:
-
Identify and build leads on new potential members
-
Work with Director of Membership on strategies for attracting new members
-
Build relationships with other organizations that could support EHL
-
Establish strategic partnerships that could advance EHL Calgary vision, mission and events
-
Contact various individuals and organizations to encourage their support in the form of speaking roles at events, mentorship, collaborations, etc.
-
Contact potential sponsors explaining the vision and aims of EHL and request sponsorship in the form of monetary support, reduced fees for courses or events, or waived event space fees etc.
-
Work with the Director of Communications to ensure that promotion of EHL is effective and appropriate
-
Provide assistance at EHL events where needed
-
Attend all monthly meetings and bi-annual strategic planning sessions
-
Participation in EHL National working groups is encouraged

We don’t have a specific age range or health care background requirement. Our members range from 18-45 years old, and from a wide range of health backgrounds including clinical and non-clinical roles, and even from health-related roles outside of the traditional health system, e.g. the founder of a health tech startup, or health conference organizer.)
-
Someone passionate about creating positive changes in health care
-
A team player who can wear many hats and enjoys a challenge

-
You come from an unusual health background and can provide unique insights
-
You have a special skill or talent to bring to the team
-
You already have a strong network of varying health professionals
If you would like to be considered for this position, please send an email to ehlcalgary@gmail.com with your resume/CV and a short video (up to 2 minutes) where you tell us why YOU would be a great fit for this role. The reason that we are asking for a video pitch is simple: one of the most important skills we are looking for is someone who can clearly and confidently give a quick elevator-pitch when talking to others about Emerging Health Leaders and why they should join/support us. Videos will not be judged on camera or sound quality - you can have your roommate or partner film it on their phone, or use your webcam to make a quick recording. We can’t wait to meet you!
(If this role isn't quite the right fit for you, we are also hiring a Director of Operations!)
