Position: Camp Sunshine Volunteer
Location: Ward's Island, Camp Sunshine, Toronto ON
Duration: May to September 2024
Description:
Camp Sunshine is a vibrant community dedicated to providing seniors with enriching experiences and cherished memories. As a volunteer, you will play a vital role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for our seniors. Your tasks will include:
1. Set Up and Clean Up:
- Assist with setting up activity areas, dining spaces, and outdoor facilities.
- Help maintain cleanliness and tidiness throughout the camp premises.
2. Food Preparation and Serving:
- Support the kitchen staff in preparing nutritious meals and snacks.
- Serve meals with care and attention, ensuring seniors' dietary needs are met.
3. Attending to Seniors:
- Engage with seniors in a compassionate and respectful manner.
- Provide assistance with mobility, if needed, and ensure their comfort and safety.
4. Chatting with Seniors:
- Foster meaningful connections through friendly conversations and active listening.
- Create a warm and inclusive atmosphere where seniors feel valued and appreciated.
5. Walking Tours:
- Lead or assist with guided walking tours around the campgrounds and nearby natural areas.
- Share knowledge about local history, flora, and fauna to enhance seniors' understanding and enjoyment.
6. Gardening:
- Assist in maintaining the camp's garden spaces, including planting, watering, and weeding.
- Encourage seniors to participate in gardening activities, promoting relaxation and sensory stimulation.
7. Singalong with Seniors:
- Organize and lead singalongs with seniors, featuring their favorite songs from different eras.
- Create a joyful and uplifting atmosphere through music, encouraging participation and camaraderie.
8. Activity Support:
- Assist activity coordinators in organizing and facilitating recreational and educational activities.
- Encourage seniors to participate in group games, arts and crafts, or other leisure pursuits.
9. Safety and Security:
- Remain vigilant and attentive to ensure the well-being of all camp participants.
- Follow safety protocols and emergency procedures as instructed by camp staff.
