TRINITY SQUARE CAFE – BOARD OF DIRECTORS OPPORTUNITY

Are you looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity with a focus on mental health recovery? Consider applying to be a member of the Board of Directors of Trinity Square Cafe, a community-based mental health recovery program for adults in Toronto.

Trinity Square Cafe believes in the potential of people living with mental illness to contribute productively to their communities. For over 40 years, Trinity Square Cafe has been achieving its mission of facilitating active social participation and vocational skills development in a transitional work environment (a downtown cafe) for people living with mental illness in Toronto. While the program has been operating virtually since March 2020, we are in the process of transitioning back to in-person programming.

Trinity Square Cafe’s Board of Directors is seeking volunteer Directors. The Board is responsible for providing leadership and strategic oversight of Trinity Square Cafe’s operations. We also work closely with the Executive Director to ensure program objectives are being met.

Interested individuals who have an understanding of mental health issues through lived experience, whether through a friend or family member, or personal experience are encouraged to apply. Previous non-profit board or other volunteer experience is an asset.

We strive to maintain a balance of expertise among the Board for adequate provision of leadership and strategic direction to Trinity Square Cafe. While we are particularly interested in bringing on new members with experience in finance, law, non-profit management/operations or government, we encourage anyone with a relevant skill set and lived experience to apply.

Our board is committed to creating a diverse environment. All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to culture, ethnicity, race, color, religion, beliefs, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, nation of origin, disability, age, or veteran status.

The commitment is a two-year term, with an average time commitment of 4-6 hours per month. This includes a monthly board meeting which is scheduled for two hours, typically starting at 6pm. Each Director is also required to sit on a committee and attend meetings on an as needed basis. Each Director agrees to attend and actively participate regularly in board and committee meetings.

Board meetings are largely attended virtually with quarterly hybrid meetings with physical attendance in downtown Toronto. Board members should be willing to attend the AGM every year in June, in-person.

We take the health and safety of the Trinity Square Cafe staff and participants seriously. As a result, we have a mandatory COVID-19 vaccine policy in place for all Directors, volunteers, staff and participants. Each individual on our Board of Directors is required to have no less than two (2) doses of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine.

We will be happy to work with applicants requesting accommodation at all stages of the hiring process.

We are looking to have new members join our in-person AGM on June 25th, so interested applicants are encouraged to submit their resumes before Friday, 20th of June. Applications received after this date will still be considered.
