ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Methanex is currently seeking an Instrument/Electrical Engineer to join the team in Medicine Hat, AB on a full-time basis.
The Instrument/Electrical Engineer works within codes of practice and engineering guidelines to design and/or coordinate instrumentation, control systems, and electrical projects through the project stages of research/definition, planning and estimating, execution, commissioning, and closeout. This role also provides technical expertise to the site when addressing/resolving plant issues associated with instrumentation, electrical and control/safety systems.
More specifically, your responsibilities will include:
Design and modify new and existing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and safety PLCs (SIS), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), electrical systems, and the instruments or field devices required for assigned projects
Size, select, procure, and supervise installation and commissioning of new and upgraded application-specific equipment
Shared responsibility for the maintenance of site instrument database, instrument and equipment specification sheets, electrical panel and termination schedules, electrical layout drawings, logic drawings, Cause/Effect Matrix (CEM), and loop drawings
Develop a basic understanding of the design concepts for key plant equipment (e.g. pumps, reformers)
Utilize the Management of Change (MOC) procedure to assess and progress temporary and permanent changes in the plant
Utilize the Manufacturing Capital Management Process (MCMP) procedure to progress a project from initiation to completion
Manage assigned projects throughout life cycle stages by identifying requirements, establishing clear and achievable objectives, and balancing site demands to ensure safe and successful completion
Provide technical support and guidance to the site within the instrumentation, control systems, and electrical discipline
Utilize knowledge and experience to engineer technology controls, instrumentation, and electrical systems
Participate in site hazard, “what if” reviews, and root cause analysis
Support the Technical team in developing and actioning the annual department plan
Ensures individual implementation of and compliance with all Methanex HR policies and procedures, including performance optimization
Ensure compliance with the applicable codes and standards e.g., Canadian Electrical Code, International Society of Automation (ISA) Standards, and IEC1151 requirements as they relate to the areas of instrumentation, control systems, and electrical discipline
Understanding of other discipline compliance areas (e.g., ABSA, ASME, API)
Contribute to the organizational vision of Global Methanol Leadership and demonstrates the core values of integrity, trust, respect, and professionalism
ABOUT YOU
To qualify, you will need an undergraduate degree in industrial controls and electrical engineering (or equivalent), along with 2 years of experience in control systems, instrumentation, and electrical technology design. Candidates must be eligible for membership as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or in progress as an EIT with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Additionally, the following assets would be preferred, but not required:
Good working knowledge of industry codes and regulations, discipline-specific practices, and standards
Experience with Microsoft Office software applications
Experience with valve and instrument sizing software would be an asset
Experience with Triconex and DeltaV systems would be an asset
Project management experience would be an asset
Gas processing facility experience would be an asset
