Care Facility Manager(RPN/RN)

The Care Facility Manager(RPN/RN) provides supervising discretion including cell phone coverage when off-site. The manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of White Heather Manor is the licensed operator and has direct involvement with the persons the program supports. All duties are performed in accordance with established policies and procedures and in a manner which respects the dignity, worth, and the need for self-respect and self-determination of the residents while promoting independence. This position functions as a Manager with administrative duties and floor nurse as needed.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Plans, directs, co-ordinates and supervises the overall nursing and care program for residents within the facility. Co-ordinates and promotes the interdisciplinary approach within the facility through the Nursing, Dietary, Activation, Environmental Service and Administration Departments.
Staff Management
Determines appropriate staffing levels for program; interviews and selects candidates for vacant/new positions
Provides orientation and ongoing training for staff; conducts regular employee evaluations and initiates corrective action if necessary
Maintains program personnel files and ensures staff requirements are complete and up to date
In consultation with Senior Director of Operations and HR, responsible for determining and implementing appropriate discipline for program staff, up to and including dismissal
Chairs monthly staff meetings; facilitates excellent communication and team building processes with the program staff
Ensures staff in-service and continuing education programs are provided as necessary
Review care staff concerns about resident needs; adapts care where necessary.
Lives and practices Optima living values and vision.
Ensures that the overall facility environment is supportive of the recovery process for all residents
Defines duties, organizes workloads for all professional and non-professional care employees and arranges schedules to ensure adequate staffing coverage is maintained.
Supervises and evaluates performance and skills of all professional and no professional care employees
Administrative Duties
Develops, implements, guides, and evaluates the program’s goals, objectives, policies, and procedures in a timely manner
Implements documentation as per licensing requirements
Manages the admission of all new residents, review all resident applications for admission to determine appropriate level of care.
Seeks and obtains directions from medical personnel regarding care needs of residents.
Maintains a working knowledge of the Community Care Facility act
Maintains a working knowledge of all current, applicable policies and procedures of the organization
Responsible for the overall maintenance of the home and any equipment
Responsible for financial management in the home; regularly completes and submits program payroll and ledger
Liaises with Interior Health Licensing, professional organizations, and other agencies and participates in quality improvement programs
Attends approved work-related training as required to promote and maintain professional development
Uses established infection control techniques to prevent and control the spread of infection and provides ongoing teaching with staff and residents. Attends related in-services as required
Meets and communicates regularly with Senior Director of Operations for Optima living Communities.
Resident/Client Care
Monitors goals, outcomes and levels of care and service provision in the home.
Provides direct nursing care, including administration of medications, medical treatments, and documented procedures as per provincial regulations and facility policies and procedures and ensures medication administration compliance
Assists with waitlist management, admissions, discharges, and transfers of resident
Implements medical orders and ensures care staff comply with medical directions provided
Advocates on behalf of residents, ensures that residents’ rights of privacy and confidentiality are maintained
Liaises with residents’ families
Assess social, emotional, physical, behavioral recreational and nutritional needs and identifies approaches to be used through activities, diet, and medical care.
Identifies and directs approaches to maintain the maximal level of independence for each resident
Coordinates with nursing team- medical/dental/allied professional appointments for residents; delegates staff to accompany residents where required
Directs and monitors the maintenance of health care records to ensure and promote compliance with regulations and quality care for resident.
Coordinates care conferences as appropriate, meet with residents’ family to resolve problems/ concerns/ complaints.
Ensures that medical records follow regulations (Residential Care Regulations)
Implement and monitors controls and safekeeping of drugs and narcotics. Supervises the drug administration program including the administration of medication by all nursing staff
Performs nursing assessment as required
Co-ordinates and monitors the Infection Control Program.
Attends the Medication Safety Committee and develops procedures for medications
What you will need to succeed:
Registered Psychiatric Nurse (Required)
Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
