About Mount Milligan Mine
Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.
Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.
Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About the Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a Superintendent, Mine Geology to join our Mount Milligan Mine operations site.
This is a camp-based position with a schedule of 4 days of work and 3 days of rest.
Reporting to the Manager, Mine Operations, the Superintendent, Mine Geology’s key objective is to develop, manage, and support the Mine Geology team to deliver accurate and quality information to support the management and extraction of the mineral resource. The Superintendent is directly responsible for collaboration with Mine Operations, Mine Engineering and Mill Metallurgical departments, specifically geologic input to mine plans, geo-metallurgical projects and optimization of mining and milling processes.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Fostering a culture of safe work practices
Managing the geology team, providing technical support and mentorship to geology staff
Ensuring project goals, scope, and deliverables are met on time and within budget, as well as, preparing annual budgets
Ensuring that all environmental standards are adhered to
Managing site databases, GIS systems and QA/QC programs for all geological systems
Accountable for the accurate delineation of ore and waste blocks for mining production
Managing and reporting of the Ore Waste Rock Management Plan
Accountable for reconciliation of mining production to the grade control and reserve models to identify opportunities for improvement to long-term estimates
Managing open pit structural mapping and data deliverables to the geotechnical engineering team
Investigating improved techniques for ore delineation and continuous improvement projects that maximize the mineral resource
Site coordination with the Exploration team to test prospective mine area targets
Ensuring timely and accurate geological reporting
About You
To qualify, you must have ideally 15+ years of progressive experience including production and ore control geology (preferably open pit), and a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience. A Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, Earth Sciences or Geological Engineering is required.
The following skills and experience will be critical to successfully performing this role:
Licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Professional Geologist with EGBC
Exploration management, planning and implementation experience are considered an asset
Solid knowledge of Alkalic Porphyry deposits, geological and block modelling
Strong computer skills; experience with mining software such as Minesight, Leapfrog considered an asset
Strong focus on safety, quality assurance and quality control
Strong communication, organizational, and team-building skills
