Why this role is important?
In this role you will play an integral role in the patient safety office, as an experienced healthcare leader in pharmacy incident management focusing on continual enhancement of pharmacy practice. Reporting to the Sr. Director, Enterprise Pharmacy Continuous Improvement & Clinical Excellence you will be accountable for objectively approaching prescription incidents in retail and long-term care settings and following a methodology to determine root cause and appropriate counter measure. The Senior Manager will work with various stakeholders to ensure a successful resolution of all pharmacy incidents and the creation a continuous quality improvement plan.
Leveraging incident data and analytics, you will also evaluate trends and improvement opportunities, while providing immediate day-to-day support to pharmacies and pharmacy teams. You and your team will also be responsible for pharmacy compliance initiatives for the continuous quality improvement program and will work with experts across the business to support immediate risks to the business. This role is fundamental in risk mitigation, continually identifying opportunities to improve pharmacy process, systems, workflow and training to drive operational excellence and best practices.
What You’ll Do?
Lead a national pharmacy incident management program and pharmacy safety compliance across 1800+ pharmacy locations in Shoppers Drug Mart, Loblaw, MediSystem, Specialty Health Network, Central Pharmacy Services and Healthcare businesses
Play a key role in the Organization’s Patient Safety Office
Support with high pharmacy incident escalations and initiate the incident response plan until complete resolution
Provide store follow ups and support, while reviewing store level action plans, along with the development of corporate action plans
Support with best practice sharing for incident prevention in areas of operations, technology and training opportunities
Support compliance related initiatives, clinical initiatives and reviews and recall management
Champion a culture of patient safety, reinforcing the importance of incident and near-miss reporting on a national level
Work with pharmacy teams as well as enterprise peers and stakeholders leveraging data, clinical safety expertise and experience to quickly address contributing factors to incidents.
Identify incident trends, opportunities and risk, then leverage this information to disseminate best practices within the organization.
Drive proactive risk mitigation strategies to help prevent medication incidents and other types of pharmacy incidents across pharmacies within the network
Update and maintain incident management Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and compliance training material
Develop and support enterprise pharmacy compliance initiatives and monitor compliance trends across the store network
Oversee and perform analysis with large amounts of data to identify trends and causal factors
Interpret analysis and present to a variety of stakeholders in simple and easy to understand formats
Prepare executive briefings and reports on quarterly incident trends and corporate action plans
Support with other operational initiatives and programs
What You’ll Need
This position requires an advanced level of initiative, analysis and judgment in order to organize and prioritize tasks, workload and follow-ups.
3+ years of clinical experience as a Pharmacist
Licensed Pharmacist in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) and/or other Canadian College bodies
Bilingual (French and English) is an asset
Be a great team player that is authentic and genuine with strong clinical communication skills and the ability to empathetically, confidentially and professionally communicate with a variety of stakeholders
Experience in leading a team with direct reporting relationships through the lens of Blue Culture.
Proven client relationship management and customer service skills
Strong analytical skills to effectively problem solve
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate ideas and actions to those at all levels of the organization
Good professional presence and possess strong planning and organizational skills
Must have the ability to rapidly assimilate new concepts and ideas, and willingness to learn
Strategic thinking and ability to solve problems with a sense of urgency
Flexible and adaptable to changes of responsibility reflective of the business needs
Ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment with the ability to set priorities and meet challenging deadlines
Demonstrated ability to use advanced tools within excel or statistical software programs
Ability to work independently and in a team setting
Must be comfortable working with Microsoft Office and SharePoint
Experience managing pharmacy / medication incidents or other relevant work experience is an asset.
This role requires availability during the business hours of operations, with occasional night or weekend on-call support.
