Salary Range: $60,000 - $67,000

School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success and lifelong achievement of students. Under the direction of the Dean of Student Well-being the Wellness Nurse responds to JK to Grade 12 student and parent concerns, and proactively develops and implements health and wellness initiatives in keeping with the school’s vision, mission and values.

The Wellness Nurse ensures the Wellness Centre facilitates positive student response to normal development, promotes health and safety, supports actual and potential health problems, provides case management services, and actively collaborates with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning. The Wellness Nurse collaborates with faculty to get into the classrooms to discuss health issues and promotion of health topics and supports the health and well-being of the Boarding students.

What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborates with Student Well-being Department to ensure the health needs of students are met

  • Provides nursing individualized care for day and Boarding students in the Wellness Centre

  • Attends to health emergencies in the school and EMS calls

  • Communicates and collaborates in a timely manner with other Student Well-being team members and senior leaders where necessary on student care, as well as parents, student supporters and their external medical specialists

  • Delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner and advocates for students

  • Identifies students with health challenges from annual medical forms and/or parent and/or student communication at the beginning of the school year

  • Liaises with the School Doctor, Pharmacist and Toronto Public Health as required

  • Provides health education and resources for students, staff, parents and other school stakeholders as required

  • Communicates with and provides support to the Boarding School team, Boarding parents and student supporters to provide health care and education for Boarding School students

  • Active participation on the Health and Safety Committee

  • Active participation on the Crisis Management Committee as required

Who You Are:

  • Currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario

  • Experience working with young and adolescent girls, preferably in an educational setting

  • Dynamic team player with the proven ability to take initiative, be a leader, manage projects, multi-task, work under pressure, problem-solve and handle confidential information

  • Experience employing counseling techniques and crisis intervention strategies with individuals and groups

  • Curiosity and interest in maintaining currency in research and best practices of school nursing, and of the academic and social/emotional development of girls 

  • A keen interest in collaborating with partners within the school, including Boarding, Student Services, Student Life, and other professionals to ensure the best student health, developmental and educational needs are met

  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
