Skills Ontario is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting careers in the skilled trades and technologies to Ontario youth through a variety of programs and competitions across the province.

We are adding two new members to the team, the Trades and Tech drivers/program staff. Trades and Tech Truck Driver/Program Staff (Contract Position)
(35 HOURS/WEEK)
Salary: $60,000
Expected start date: September 3rd, 2024 (or sooner)

Skills Ontario is growing our current Trades and Tech Truck program by adding 3 new trailers to the program and we are looking for drivers! The Skills Ontario Trades and Tech Truck programs bring the trades and technologies careers directly to students, teachers, and guardians/parents. The Truck and new Trailers are custom builds and have on board industry training equipment and activities to allow people to experience the trades and technologies in a hands-on environment.

Under the guidance of the Trades and Tech Truck Program Manager, the successful candidates will be responsible for driving a Dodge 5500 pulling a 45-foot custom trailer to and from events as well as setting up trailer and on-board activities. The drivers will work alongside the program staff to create a schedule and handle all logistics with booking contacts as well as delivering the program to participants.

Main Responsibilities
  • Driving truck and setting up and taking down trailer in event location
  • Staffing all trailer events
  • Maintain and set up all activities in trailer.
  • Ensuring all documentation for Truck/Trailer is up to date (License plate stickers. CVOR)
  • Schedule all repairs and maintenance for the vehicle
  • Coordinating with teachers/organizers for all logistics of trailer visits
  • Leading participants through truck activities
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders
  • Assist with any other Skills Ontario Program when required.
Requirements
  • Secondary Education: any post-secondary education would be considered an asset.
  • Possess minimum “AR” class license or willingness to get “AR” class license is mandatory.
  • Driving a 2023 Dodge Ram 5500 and pulling a highly customized 45ft Gooseneck trailer
  • Ability to maneuver unit in smaller areas/comfortable driving in high traffic times.
  • Must have/maintain a clean driving record.
  • AZ/DZ license would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of skilled trades and technology careers will be considered an asset.
  • Ability to work with external stakeholders.
  • Be highly organized and self-motivated.
  • Ability to maneuver a truck/trailer in small area.
  • Ability to work from home but travel will be required to deliver program.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of computers and of basic software, including Outlook and Microsoft Suite.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Provide a clean Criminal Record Check/ Vulnerable Screening Check
  • Must be willing to travel and spends nights away from home when required,
  • Early morning travel to events is a regular occurrence.
  • Be fluent in English, both oral and written. Fluency in French is an asset, but not required
  • All other duties that may be assigned.
