Are you seeking practical, hands-on experience in the nonprofit sector this summer? Amnesty’s Fundraising team is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Fundraising Summer Intern to join for a short-term contract position. This is an ideal opportunity for someone interested in learning about nonprofit operations, donor stewardship, and the inner workings of a busy development team.

While this internship is temporary with no opportunity for extension, it offers a meaningful learning experience for those eager to contribute to important social justice work behind the scenes.

As a Fundraising team member, the Summer Intern will integrate principles and practices of diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), anti-racism, and anti-oppression (ARAO) into daily stakeholder interactions. This role helps preserve and enhance the organization's overall reputation.

The candidate must contribute to gender equity, integrate youth perspectives, and address diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-oppression goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

The Summer Intern will support the Fundraising Department with a wide range of administrative tasks that keep donor engagement running smoothly, including:
  • Entering and updating donor information in our donor database
  • Cleaning and organizing historical donor records
  • Assisting with donor communications—sorting, stuffing, and mailing letters or donor items
  • Making welcome or thank you calls
  • Supporting event preparation (packing, logistics, materials coordination)
  • Conducting light research on donor trends or event prospects
  • Assisting with basic writing tasks or proofreading content for stewardship pieces
  • Lending a hand with other administrative tasks as requested by the Manager and/or Director of Fundraising
EXPERIENCE THE PERSON WILL GAIN:

Though the role is administrative, the candidate will get a front-row seat to the day-to-day of a fundraising department and how donor relationships are managed. You’ll also leave with valuable experience for your resume, insight into nonprofit operations, and the satisfaction of contributing to meaningful work.

Experience/Knowledge/Skills:
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Work independently and in a team environment
  • General donor/member service skills
  • Reliable and able to manage repetitive tasks with care
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Comfortable in the Microsoft environment (Outlook, Word and Excel), working with databases, and digital tools
  • Graphic Design skills considered an asset
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Interest in Human Rights and nonprofit work, fundraising, or community engagement is a plus
EDUCATION:
  • High school diploma completed.
  • A college student in a Fundraising or Non-profit Management program is preferred.
Please Note:

This is a short-term, in-office contract position with no possibility of extension or future employment. It is ideal for students or early-career individuals looking to explore the nonprofit space for a limited period.

ABOUT US

Amnesty International is a movement of 10 million ordinary people in more than 150 countries who come together to achieve extraordinary results in defending and promoting human rights. We get discriminatory laws changed and prisoners of conscience released. We’ve helped stop torture, commute death sentences and worked to end violence against women. We are in solidarity with Indigenous peoples demanding that their rights be respected.
