CKCU-FM, Ottawa’s beloved volunteer-based community radio station, is excited to celebrate its 50th anniversary of broadcasting this November 2025. As Canada’s oldest community-campus radio station, we pride ourselves on our rich history and vibrant community spirit.

We’re on the lookout for a passionate and inspiring Station Director to join our team. This role is all about leading and nurturing our community, overseeing the daily operations, and ensuring our station continues to thrive. You’ll be reporting to our dedicated Board of Trustees and will play a key role in the management and administration of our station. Come be a part of our CKCU-FM family and help us continue to make a difference in our community!

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the station;
  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff and volunteers;
  • Oversee the stations’ budget and financial resources, including fundraising initiatives and grant applications;
  • Spearhead the annual fall fundraising campaign;
  • Ensure strict compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and station policies;
  • Represent the station in the community and cultivate relationships and partnerships with stakeholders, including listeners, sponsors and funders;
  • Develop policies and procedures in collaboration with the Board of Directors; and
  • Uphold high programming standards, adhere to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) regulations, and develop innovative, engaging content tailored to community needs and interests.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years experience in a leadership role, ideally within non-profit, charity, or broadcast media sectors;
  • Demonstrable staff and volunteer management experience;
  • Experience working with unionized staff, and knowledge of labour relations, collective bargaining agreements and labour laws;
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners;
  • Proven experience in revenue generation including fundraising, financial management and strategic planning;
  • Experience in grant-writing;
  • Familiarity with radio broadcast requirements at the Federal, Provincial and municipal levels;
  • Knowledge of CRTC regulations, broadcasting standards, and best practices in community-oriented radio;
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Not-for-profit Corporations Act (ONCA), and laws related to charitable status;
  • A strong commitment to the station’s mission and vision; and,
  • The ability to lead by example.

This position provides a salary range of $65,000 to $70,000 based on skills and experience.
