Title:               Shareholder Advocacy Specialist (Decent Work & Human Rights)
Status:           Full Time, Permanent, Unionized  
Reports to:    Associate Director, Shareholder Advocacy
Location:       Vancouver, BC or Toronto, ON (hybrid work arrangements)
Salary:            $79,029.60 per annum with annual increases as per our collective bargaining agreement

THE OPPORTUNITY - SHAREHOLDER ADVOCACY SPECIALIST:
Reporting to the Associate Director of Shareholder Advocacy (Decent Work & Human Rights), you'll be at the forefront of SHARE's mission to drive positive change through shareholder engagement.

Some of your primary responsibilities will include:
  • Leading negotiations of formal and informal agreements with targeted companies;
  • Leading collaborative efforts with allied investors, including the development of common agendas and shared priorities;
  • Contributing to the formulation of strategy, identifying targets, outcomes, timing, focus, and activities for each sector and company based on thematic priorities;
  • Maintaining ongoing, constructive relationships with company personnel, government and regulatory officials to ensure sustained engagement;
  • Nurturing relationships with engagement partners, allied investors, relevant stakeholder groups, and experts in pertinent fields, while also monitoring developments from these connections;
  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of emerging issues and trends within SHARE’s thematic areas, maintaining up-to-date knowledge to inform engagement efforts;
  • Collaborating with the research team to shape the research program, aligning it with new and emerging engagement objectives.

YOU MAY BE BEST PERSON FOR THE ROLE IF YOU:

  • Are an action-oriented risk taker, who enjoys working on multiple projects at the same time;
  • Thrive working independently in a fluid environment;
  • Are proficient in negotiation and advocacy techniques, demonstrated through prior experience;
  • Possess excellent analytical skills, political acuity and sound judgement;
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to provide compelling and engaging presentations to a range of audiences;
  • Are able to conduct research on topics related to the social, environmental and governance policies and practices of publicly traded corporations, including extensive use of online resources.

AT A MINIMUM, YOU HAVE THESE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three to five years of experience in an advocacy or negotiation role;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of responsible investing, ESG integration or issuers’ financial and non-financial reporting obligations;
  • Relevant work experience. Experience in a corporate or investor ESG role is a strong asset;
  • Master’s degree in law, finance, business, sustainability or any other relevant field or equivalent related experience;
  • Strong knowledge of relevant thematic priorities, including on internationally recognized standards related to human rights and Indigenous rights in the Canadian context;
  • Fluency in English is required. Fluency in French is a strong asset.

  • Terms and conditions of employment are set in accordance with the SHARE-USW Collective agreement;
  • SHARE employees must be eligible to work in Canada. You must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada or authorized in writing to work in Canada under the Federal Immigration Act;
  • Occasional domestic and international travel may be required, including to the United States.
