Shareholder Advocacy Officer - Shareholder Association for Research and Education
Status: Full time, permanent, (Unionized)
Reports to: Associate Director, Shareholder Advocacy
Salary: $72,787.20 per annum (with annual increases as per our collective bargaining agreement)

THE OPPORTUNITY: SHAREHOLDER ADVOCACY OFFICER
Reporting to the Associate Director, Shareholder Advocacy (Decent Work & Human Rights)and working collaboratively across programs, the Shareholder Advocacy Officer plays a key role in SHARE’s shareholder engagement program. They develop and execute corporate engagement strategies, negotiate with companies, and lead collaborative engagement across a range of program areas.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
You will be a pivotal contributor to SHARE’s industry-leading corporate engagement program. Some of your primary responsibilities will include:- Preparing decision-useful briefs to assist in preparation and execution of engagement with companies and investment managers to change policies and practices
- Coordinating and supporting engagements with companies and investment managers on social and governance issues, including the filing of shareholder proposals, advocacy and discussions with companies and investor representatives
- Supporting negotiation of formal and informal agreements with target companies;
- Supporting collaborative work with allied investors, including developing common agendas and shared priorities;
- Contributing to developing strategy and identifying targets, outcomes, timing, focus and activities for each sector and company based on thematic priorities;
- Supporting maintenance of ongoing, constructive engagement relationships with company personnel, government and regulatory officials;
- Maintaining relationships with and monitor developments from engagement partners, allied investors, relevant stakeholder groups, and experts in relevant fields;
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of emerging issues and trends in SHARE’s thematic areas;
- Contributing to drafting and review of communications about engagement themes and companies, including policy briefs, blog posts, research reports, and program reports;
- Contributing to the development of team learning, systems and culture to support a dynamic and growing program
- Working collaboratively with the research team to shape research program to support new and emerging engagement objectives.

- Have demonstrated experience with negotiation and advocacy techniques;
- Are an action-oriented risk taker, who enjoys working on different projects at the same time

- Possess excellent analytical skills, political savvy, and sound judgement;
- Have flawless verbal and written communication skills, with a knack for delivering captivating and engaging presentations to a range of audiences;
- Have a flexible, positive and responsive attitude, and a team-oriented approach to change-making;
- Keep meticulous records, and possess excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to set priorities and balance competing deadlines and pressures.
- You are highly proficient with cloud-based collaboration tools, CRM databases, Microsoft Suite, and relevant database and data analysis tools;
- You have the ability to conduct research on topics related to the social, environmental and governance policies and practices of publicly traded corporations, including extensive use of online resources.
AT A MINIMUM, YOU HAVE THESE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in law, human rights, finance, business, sustainability or any other relevant field or equivalent related experience;
- Minimum one-to-three years of experience in an advocacy or negotiation role;
- Demonstrated knowledge of responsible investing, ESG integration or issuers’ financial and
- non-financial reporting obligations is a strong asset.
- Relevant work experience in a corporate setting is a strong asset.
- Strong, demonstrated experience working on action-oriented research and analysis in support of impactful campaigns
- Strong knowledge of relevant thematic priorities, including on internationally recognized standards related to Indigenous rights in the Canadian context, and human rights.
- Fluency in English is required. Fluency in French is a strong asset.
