The Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) is a not-for-profit organization that represents all Undergraduate Students at Simon Fraser University (SFU). The SFSS provides our members with a broad range of advocacy work, services, and events. The vision of the SFSS is students thriving everywhere and is realized through our support of students to reach their full potential by providing resources and services that represent, connect and benefit our membership.
 

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Services Lead is responsible for assisting the Board of Directors with the Development and assessment, and viability of all the activities of the Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS). The Services Lead ensures the efficient functioning of the society’s resources and services to support the SFU undergraduate population. The position reports to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors through the President and has – reports.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

General

  • Provide the Board with monthly reports on metrics of all services and activities on the operations of the organisation upon request.
  • Consistently meet deadlines and develop realistic action plans that support organisational goals and objectives.
  • Take initiative to identify problems and issues and seek solutions proactively.
  • Ensures the business operations are appropriately managed in a manner. Continually monitors the needs of the members of the SFSS to identify potential to improve existing services and/or develop new services. Ensures that services are delivered effectively, efficiently and on budget.
  • Regularly assesses programs and services offered by the SFSS to ensure relevancy, effectiveness and efficiency. This will include recommendations to the Board on programs and services, followed by the appropriate implementation strategies.
  • Addresses inefficiencies, duplication of services, debts or deficits, and restructures operating units as required to better serve the SFSS and its members.
  • Creates and adapts to organisational change in goals and mandates, with a focus on constant improvement.
  • Examine existing structures, processes, and policies with a critical eye. Adopts an ‘out of the box’ and visionary approach and has the patience, energy and drive to work through obstacles and various committees and make change happen for the betterment of the SFSS and its members.
  • Develop effective relationships with SFU Facilities, lT Services and other service providers to ensure that building and systems services are delivered effectively. member-facing service delivery.
  • Assist in recruiting and training member-facing staff
  • Supervise, develop, schedule and evaluate the performance of member-facing staff.
  • Develop, implement and regularly monitor and adjust service processes to ensure that member needs are being addressed.
  • Develop, implement, monitor and adjust annual service-delivery operational plans.
  • Regularly solicit feedback from members regarding the quality of their service experience; incorporate the feedback to improve service delivery.
  • Attend and provide relevant updates at all Executive committee and council meetings.

 

Finance and Administration

  • Monitor, analyse and adjust budgets as required, using SFSS-approved procedures.
  • Liaise with IT representatives to ensure that our lT support needs are met.
  • Develop annual budgets for member-facing service delivery, facilities operation and capital purchases.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the organisation's programs and services
  • Ensure that the programs and services offered by the organisation contribute to the organisation's mission and reflect the priorities of the Board
  • Monitor the day-to-day delivery of the programs and services of the organisation to maintain or improve quality.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of special projects.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline such as Business Administration or related social science.
  • 2 years of recent, related experience in a similar role in a complex and dynamic unionised work environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce and across multiple organisational levels.
  • Successful experience supervising employees
  • Project managing skills with demonstrated experience managing major projects and initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet tight deadlines while delivering high levels of customer service.
  • Effective conflict management skills and the ability to facilitate a collaborative working environment with members and unions.
  • Strategic thinker, issues facilitator, highly engaging and compelling storyteller.
  • Ability to work within broad parameters, competing deadlines / priorities and with frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and negotiating skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

 

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.

 

We offer competitive compensation with a range of: $70,000 - $80,000 annually along with an extensive benefits package including but not limited to a full range dental, extended health, and life insurance plans, leave provisions and an initial annual vacation entitlement of 3-4 weeks. Subsequent salary increases are at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
