Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director, Philanthropy, the Senior Development Officer is a key member of the YMCA of Hamilton|Burlington|Brantford’s Philanthropy office, providing fundraising expertise to advance our mission.

As an experienced fundraising professional, you will be responsible for fostering and soliciting new and existing multi-year gifts. You will identify, build and manage strong and productive relationships to maximize revenue generation and will design, execute and oversee a sophisticated corporate, foundational and individual gift pipeline with targeted strategies to maximize engagement and philanthropic support. This includes facilitating strategies, monitoring, coordinating initiatives and ensuring the next steps are completed in a timely manner to further organizational fundraising goals.

What You’ll Do:

  • Apply a strong fundraising track record to drive results and achieve fund development objectives.
  • Increase the number of planned giving donations through personal visits, as well as regular communication and engagement of planned giving donors through outreach and education and manage relationships with individuals who have included the YMCA of HBB in their estate.
  • Exercise a considerable amount of initiative, innovation and resourcefulness to enhance existing relationships and create new opportunities to achieve strategic and impactful outcomes to realize YMCA HBB goals.
  • Work independently but also collaboratively by supporting the Philanthropy office, staff and operations.
  • Write effective proposals/applications, with exceptional attention to detail and captivating storytelling, as well as manage and track proposal and reporting activities in the project management platform.
  • Develop recognition programs to show honour to and appreciation for the generosity and support from planned giving donors.
  • Maintain donor databases, including detailed records of all donor interactions.
  • Design and execute endowment/planned giving programs, capital, and comprehensive campaigns.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Post-secondary education in business, communications, public relations or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Five (5+) years of progressive fundraising experience, with demonstrated success in the non-profit/charitable sector.
  • A proven track record to deliver on fundraising goals and program management, with experience facilitating sustainable multi-year major and principal level giving.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the highest standards of ethical practice.
  • Self-motivated professional, with the ability to motivate and influence others to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing and the talent to distill and present information in a visually appealing and coherent manner.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, coupled with the capacity to analyze results for making informed adjustments and recommendations.
  • Strong relationship building skills to cultivate and maintain professional and responsive donor, prospect and community relationships with the ability to successfully engage with internal and external partners.
  • Superior organizational skills, flexibility, with a high degree of initiative and ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a positive and effective manner, meeting critical deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, and database and reporting systems.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is imperative.
  • Use of a reliable vehicle is required.

A Major Asset If 

  • You have worked in non-profit, charity, or public sector organizations.  
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation desirable.
  • You have knowledge of Raisers Edge/NXT, Unison, and donor relationship platforms.
  • Experience with the design and execution of endowment/planned giving programs and capital campaigns preferred.
  • Policy development experience and knowledge of Imagine Canada Accreditation requirements is an asset.
