Regional Coordinator, Waterloo Region ON - Reconnection Project - Environmental Defence
About the Role
Environmental Defence Canada (EDC) is a leading Canadian environmental advocacy organization that works with government, industry and individuals to defend clean water, a safe climate and healthy communities. EDC is looking for a Regional Coordinator that would support our efforts to engage communities in Waterloo Region. This is a nearly 2 year contract role (lasting until December 2026) which is part-time with about 8-16 hours per week at a rate of $24 an hour.
Purpose of the Role
We know that community connection and civic engagement is at the heart of real and effective environmental change. By connecting people with nature and neighbors, we can build more resilient communities in a changing climate. The Regional Coordinator would be leading Outreach cohorts and supporting our efforts to engage communities regarding gardening, hiking, biking, food security or anything else they’d like to see within their neighborhood.
Duties and Responsibilities

Conducting outreach to local groups

Mapping out existing community events which we can attend and promote

Participating in and/or leading events with availability in the evenings and on weekends

Interacting with the general public by email and in person

Creating content for monthly newsletters

Plan and/or execute canvassing and other message deployment efforts

Participating in message development

Identify tactics that will help in recruiting supporters to this effort and building a volunteer network

Liaising with city/town staff for event coordination as needed

Submit invoices and keep track of expenses
Location
This role is based in Waterloo Region, ON and requires access to a vehicle. Candidates with an extensive personal connection to Waterloo Region will be strongly preferred.
Support
The successful applicant will be the ‘face’ of Reconnect Waterloo Region, but they will have other Environmental Defence staff providing support with writing, editing, research, strategy, event planning and communications materials.
