The Program – Journeys
The Journeys Program is a six bed Live-In Program for youth ages 12 to 15 years who have status with Children’s Services. Journeys offers a recreation, life skills and relationship-based program, with an average stay of 6-12 months. The intention of the youth’s stay is to collaborate with the youth and their supports to identify strengths and areas of growth where resourcing and skill development can be done with the aim of supporting the youth’s successful transition back to their family (parental or kinship setting) wherever possible, or into a less intrusive placement where indicated by the case plan.
The programming at Journeys focuses on cultivating each youth’s sense of self-worth and helps each youth identify, establish, and maintain healthy relationships with their supports to allow for successful and stable transitions. The Journeys Program provides youth with a safe and nurturing environment; individualized care plans; educational and recreational activities; and the development of daily routines. The development of strong positive relationships is a key component of the overall success of the Journeys Program.
The Position
This position will be based at the Journeys Program and will include direct involvement and support of the program, staff team, youth, and community partners. This position will be part of the Enviros leadership team and will ensure that day-to-day operations follow program protocols and Enviros policy.
Responsibilities
1. Supervise a team of staff members up to 10 individuals
2. Consultation and reporting to the Child and Family Services
3. Ensure all Accreditation standards are upkept and met
4. Completion and overseeing of documentation and case management
5. Complete scheduling to ensure program is properly staffed
6. Active member of the leadership team
7. Oversee and approve staff timesheets, and time-off
8. Supports group care on-call on a rotational basis
9. Attend all leadership meetings
10. Conduct staff meetings
11. Along with the program manager, ensure that the budget is reviewed and adhered to
12. Provide regular supervision of staff members
13. Provide support when needed to clients
14. Recruitment, staff performance evaluations and staff training as required by CAC guidelines and ensure all staff training are current
15. Oversee household health and safety standards and overall housekeeping duties
Competencies
·Strong supervisory communication skills
·Subject matter expert on child and youth care programs
·Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
·Supportive leader that encourages ongoing staff development
·Able to adapt to changing situations
·Open Communication
·Able to provide effective feedback and supervision to staff
Education & Experience
·Post-secondary education in a Human Services related field
·Experience and demonstrated skills in supervising staff
·3-5 years experience working with youth affected by trauma
·CPR and first aid certification
Other Qualifications
·Valid Class 5 driver’s license (Class 5 GDL will not be accepted)
·A clean driver’s abstract containing not more than two (2) minor offences or one (1) major offence
·Police Record Check with Vulnerable sector check (within six (6) months)
·Child Intervention Check (within one (1) year)
