PROGRAM LEADER

St. John’s Anglican Church in Lancaster, ON - Part of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa

Location: 20788 South Service Rd, South Lancaster, ON   

Contract Length: 9 weeks (approx mid-June to mid-August)

Salary: $17.55 per hour x 30 hrs per week


Job Objective

St. John’s is looking for a summer student to plan, organize, and implement faith-based and recreational children’s programming and special events (ages 4-12). Programming will include activities to stimulate and develop children’s intellectual, physical and emotional growth while ensuring their security and well-being. Programming will be tailored to meet the needs of the participants and focus on various areas of faith, sports, music, and nature. The youth will gain meaningful work experience in planning, developing and implementing curriculum and programming, communicating with families and working with others.


Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching and Leadership:

  • Plan and lead age-appropriate, interactive activities and lessons related to topic areas.
  • Serve as a positive role model for participants
  • Promote holistic character development and personal growth among participants
  • Supervise and ensure safety of participants during all activities.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment, ensuring participants feel welcomed.


Teamwork:

  • Collaborate with volunteers and staff to create a cohesive and engaging experience for participants.


Administration/Communication:

  • Maintain communication with participants and families
  • Maintain communication with volunteers and staff
  • Other duties as required.


Qualifications

  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of St. John’s Anglican Church & the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa.
  • Enthusiasm for topic areas and a desire to share this passion with participants.
  • Experience working with children, such as previous camp counseling, coaching, or teaching, Students entering or in post-secondary programs such as Early Childhood Education will be considered.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership abilities and the capacity to be a positive role model.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain it before start date)
  • Food allergy and Anaphylaxis training (or willingness to obtain it before start date)
  • Immunizations as required by Public Health
  • Current & valid vulnerable sector check (required for 18+)
  • Valid driver's license and/or own transportation


Special Working Conditions

The church is located annexed to Parks of the St. Lawrence - Glengarry Campground at the St. Lawrence River.

Activities and special events will be held in person, generally outdoors on the church lawn or in collaboration with community partners. The church hall will be available. Some remote work possible for planning and preparing of activities and/or curriculum (to be negotiated).

Work schedule is typically Monday to Friday. Some weekends, to be negotiated.
