Program Facilitator - Vita Centre

The Program Facilitator is responsible for presenting nutrition-based, life skills, and parenting programs to vulnerable parents with children aged 0 to 6 years in the Region of Peel. The incumbent is also responsible for assisting in the development and personal growth of clients and their children by providing opportunities for community linkages and resource connections. 

The Program Facilitator will mirror the mission and values of Vita Centre to the volunteers and vulnerable parents and families we serve.

The Program Facilitator reports to the Program Manager and works closely with the Volunteer Coordinator and Community Counsellor(s).

Duties and responsibilities

PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate up to a maximum of 8 group sessions per week
  • Develop and foster a safe environment that empowers clients to participate
  • Work collaboratively with the second Program Facilitator to prepare detailed session plans and submit weekly to program manager.
  • Produce and prepare the necessary program materials
  • Work from an anti-oppressive framework using an adult learning approach.
  • Provide group and one-on-one support and resources to participants.
  • Conduct intake interviews to determine eligibility
  • Ensure adequate supplies for the program and liaise with Program Manager to purchase supplies.
  • Keep record of volunteers’ and client’s attendance (sign-in/out);
  • Obtain client feedback by ensuring that program surveys are completed at the end of each series. Provide the collected data to Program Manager to enable the enhancement of programs.
  • Complete paperwork/database updates at the end of each program session (i.e, stats, attendance, debrief logs)
  • Attend appropriate workshops and trainings to enhance staff development, knowledge, and interaction with clients.
  • Make referrals in the community and within Vita Centre’s services, as appropriate
  • Perform networking duties to foster strong community partnerships with stakeholders and the community.
  • Represent the programs at various community meetings as assigned.

VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT

  • Work collaboratively with the Volunteer Coordinator by providing adequate information to support the recruitment of appropriate volunteers that assist with the various programs
  • Supervise, assist and support the volunteers that are facilitating activities and discussions with the children.
  • Submit monthly volunteer statistics from each program.

PLACEMENT STUDENT DEVELOPMENT

  • In collaboration with Volunteer Coordinator, conduct placement student interviews
  • Work collaboratively with the students to facilitate appropriate learning opportunities for them
  • Supervise, assist and support the students’ learning goals
  • Provide ongoing feedback for the students’ development

FACILITY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operational aspect of running the programs including set up and cleanup of program location, welcoming and registering the participants and volunteers, introduction of speakers and assisting clients and volunteers with their queries.
  • Report all incidents or Serious Occurrences at facility or alternative program sites to Program Coordinator
  • Work cooperatively with rental agencies
  • Ensure compliance of health and safety, requirements, (i.e. safe food handling)
  • Oversee and maintain equipment in safe and appropriate manner

AGENCY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend staff meetings and related case management meetings, as appropriate
  • Support the activities of the volunteers and Board Committees
  • Perform other duties as assigned (maintenance of program supplies, Foodbank stats, unloading and organizing food bank orders, maintaining care closet inventory )
  • Assist with child-minding when necessary
  • Complete monthly travel, expense reports and timesheets
  • Establish and maintain rapport with stakeholders and other community members by attending functions when necessary

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Social Service/Child and Youth Work Diploma or related experience
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, able to work independently and maintain a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse community groups;
  • Ability to exercise discretion
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with particular needs and challenges of young mothers and with community resources in Peel is an asset
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records check.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a car is a necessity
