Position: Policy Officer

Duration: One Year Contract – November 1, 2025 to October 31, 2026
Wellesley Institute is a non-profit and non-partisan research and policy institute that focuses on health and health equity in the Greater Toronto Area. Wellesley Institute's mission is to advance population health and reduce health inequities by driving change on the social determinants of health through applied research, health equity development, knowledge translation and policy engagement.
We are seeking a Policy Officer committed to impacting progress on the social determinants of health. Building on Wellesley’s Thriving at Work framework, the successful candidate will work closely with our research team to investigate and develop solutions to create healthier workplaces for early childhood educators and personal support workers in the Greater Toronto Area.
The Policy Officer will report to our Director of Policy.
Job Duties
We are located in downtown Toronto. This is an on-site position. We are currently working a hybrid of onsite/remote but may return to on-site only.

The Policy Officer will report to our Director of Policy.
Job Duties
- Research Canadian and international jurisdictional policies and policy literature around healthy workplaces.
- Collaborate with our Thriving at Work Researcher on qualitative studies of these categories of workers.
- Run at least two policy workshops with stakeholders to develop solutions to advance thriving in these workplaces.
- Create at least two policy briefs.
- Develop key partnerships across private, public and non-profit sectors with important policy actors in this space.
- Assist in our policy, collaboration, and government engagement initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Post-secondary degree in a related field (e.g. public policy, law, political science); advanced degrees are an asset.
- Understanding of public policy and government decision-making processes at all levels.
- Experience with workplace policy issues a key asset.
- Ability to synthesize complex information for report writing and presentations.
- Experience in drafting briefing notes, position papers, briefs, etc.
- Experience in leading policy workshops, including recruitment, logistics, facilitation, developing discussion materials, active listening, and consensus building towards common solutions.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in and across collaborative teams. Experience working collaboratively with researchers to develop evidence-informed policy recommendations is an asset.
