Philanthropy Specialist - Parachutes for Pets

The Philanthropy Specialist is a senior-level role responsible for leading and executing Parachutes for Pets' comprehensive fundraising strategies. As the only dedicated fundraiser on our small but passionate team, you will be the driving force behind our donor relations, grant management, and fundraising campaigns. The successful candidate will manage and cultivate relationships with our valued donors, oversee grant applications, and develop innovative strategies to increase donor retention, acquisition, and stewardship.

We are seeking someone who not only excels in such an environment but can also provide stability and strategic direction to our fundraising efforts. Your ability to adapt and manage multiple priorities will be essential to ensuring the sustainability and growth of our programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Donor Engagement and Stewardship:

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive donor engagement strategy that fosters long-term relationships with our supporters.

    • Manage and grow the monthly giving program, ensuring consistent communication and engagement with recurring donors.

    • Lead efforts to steward donors through personalized communications, recognition programs, and impact reporting.

    • Cultivate relationships with major donors, foundations, and corporate partners, aligning their philanthropic goals with our mission.

  • Fundraising Strategy and Execution:

    • Develop and execute a multi-year fundraising plan that supports the financial goals of Parachutes for Pets.

    • Identify and pursue new fundraising opportunities, including grants, corporate sponsorships, and planned giving.

    • Oversee the planning and execution of donor mail campaigns, ensuring compelling messaging and effective segmentation.

    • Lead the solicitation and management of securities, ensuring all transactions are handled with the highest level of integrity and compliance.

    • Grant Management:

      • Identify, research, and apply for relevant grants that align with our mission and strategic goals.

      • Manage all aspects of grant applications, from initial proposal development to final reporting.

      • Collaborate with program staff to ensure grant-funded projects are executed according to plan and meet funder requirements.

    • Donor Retention and Acquisition:

      • Develop innovative strategies to increase donor retention and acquisition, focusing on enhancing the donor experience.

      • Analyze donor data to identify trends and opportunities for growth, adjusting strategies as needed to maximize results.

      • Work with the CEO and events team to create compelling campaigns that attract new donors and retain existing supporters.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation required, or actively working towards it.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in fundraising, with a proven track record of success in donor engagement, grant writing, and strategic planning.

  • Strong understanding of the Canadian charitable sector, including CRA regulations related to fundraising and donations.

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to craft compelling narratives that resonate with donors.

  • Leadership and Collaboration:

    • Serve as a key member of the leadership team, contributing to the overall strategic direction of Parachutes for Pets.

    • Collaborate with the CEO and to align fundraising strategies with organizational priorities.

    • Work in collaboration with a small and diverse team of professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence between departments.

  • Compliance and Reporting:

    • Ensure all fundraising activities comply with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) regulations and ethical fundraising practices.

    • Provide regular reports to the CEO and Board of Directors on fundraising progress, challenges, and opportunities.

    • Maintain accurate records of all donor interactions and transactions in our CRM system, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.

    • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners.

    • Experience with donor management software, such as Canada Helps, Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, or similar CRM systems.

    • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret donor data and adjust strategies accordingly.
