Part Time Inclusion Support (Seasonal Programs)

Reporting to the Program Supervisor – Inclusion, the Program Director – Inclusion, and/or the Community Recreation Coordinator, the Inclusion Support Staff are accountable for advocating, and providing individual support and adaptations for a child, youth, or young adult with special needs in a recreation program setting.
 
Key Duties
  • Develops and implements a safe, enjoyable and diverse program for participants with special needs.
  • Attends to the care needs (feeding, toileting, clothing changes, etc.) of participants with special needs.
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of participants during program hours.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of adaptive programming for participants with special needs.
  • Works cooperatively and maintains ongoing and effective communication with participants, parents, colleagues and supervisors.
  • Develops and implements a weekly action plan that will fully accommodate the support needs of your participant.
  • Dispenses and administers participant medication as required.
  • Adheres to all Town policies and procedures and acts in a professional manner at all times.
  • Performs daily site checks and ensures that the necessary equipment and supplies are available and in safe condition.
  • Takes appropriate action to deals with incidents/accidents and emergencies, as outlined in the departmental policies and procedures.
  • Completes and submits administrative tasks (daily logs, program plans, attendance forms, etc.) within the specified deadlines.
  • Shifts can be scheduled morning, afternoon, and evenings on weekdays and weekends.
Qualifications/Skills
  • Completion of Grade 12 High School Diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Minimum 9 months to 1 year of experience.
  • Knowledge and experience related to the delivery of programs and services.
  • Previous experience working/volunteering with children, youth, and/or young adults with special needs (personal, professional or volunteer experience will be considered).
  • Strong behaviour management skills.
  • Strong understanding of how to deliver personal care (clothing change, assistance in the washroom, etc.) to customers with dignity and safety.
  • Self-motivated, positive, confident and approachable.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR C certification.
  • HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
  • Able to provide a current Criminal Reference Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) that is satisfactory to the Town (dated within last 6 months).
What is Offered to Staff
  • Rate of Pay: $17.99 - $19.56 per hour.
  • Hours of Work: This is a non-union position that works up to 24 hours per week.   The hours of work are various shifts on weekdays and weekends, between 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.
