Team Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Support and promote the philosophy of the program

  • Support and empower a team while fostering an environment for ongoing growth and development

  • A resource to the Niagara Assertive Outreach Team in managing program delivery, challenges and issues

  • Ensuring coverage for program operations during daytime, evening and weekend hours

  • Active part of Gateway’s on call Team

  • Team contact for critical incidents, staffing issues and client issues

  • Principle liaison between front line staff and Program Supervisor and Program Manager

  • Responsible for the daily operation and supervision of each member of the Niagara Assertive Outreach Team

  • Provide effective guidance, supervision and motivation for the team

  • In partnership with the NASO Manager, monitor all employee training and orientation for all new staff

  • Communicate effectively with management team, and frontline workers reading family incidents, behaviors, activities, updates, absences, client care needs, as well as Niagara Assertive Outreach Needs for successful operations

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations for outreach workers and maintain accurate records

  • Facilitate ongoing tap-in sessions to check in with outreach workers

  • Address any immediate concerns or challenges faced by outreach workers

  • Offer guidance, support, and resources to enhance job performance

  • Encourage open communication and foster a supportive work environment

  • Prime contact for people in the program, team members, and agency members

  • Appropriately and safely address and assess high energy and potentially crisis-level situations

  • Ensuring all data for HIFIS, outcome measures, service performance indicators, and other standard measures are inputted in a timely manner from front-line staff to Program Manager

  • Ensuring all front-line staff are equipped to maintain all HIFIS case files, documentation, and information according to agency standards

  • Ensuring staff are scheduling client hours appropriately and effectively participating in activities that are productive and appropriate for the achievement of goals within the Niagara Assertive Street Outreach Program

  • Submitting all statistical information and file audits to Program Manager / Program Director efficiently

  • Plan and implement with the partnering supervisor to host all team meetings

  • Ensuring all policies and procedures, standards of practice and expectations for service delivery of the agency are followed by all team members

  • In partnership with the NASO Manager oversee a program that is sufficiently flexible and dynamic to meet the needs of individuals who have income issues and have not been well served or have been unable to access traditional systems and supports

This position description reflects the general duties of the position, but it is not intended to be a detailed description of all duties that may be inherent in the position.  Assertive Street Outreach Team Leader may also be asked to perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements:

  • Degree or diploma in social science or in Social Service Field

  • One year of experience working with the homeless population

  • One year of experience in the community mental health field and/or addictions

  • Five years’ of related experience

  • Demonstrated leadership experience is an asset

  • Weekend availability

  • A valid G drivers’ license with a reliable vehicle and permission to carry rider attached with 2-million-dollar liability

  • CPR Certificate/First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training

  • Knowledge of homelessness and outreach system

  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills

  • Good problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Good oral and written skills

  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills

  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of HIFIS, MS Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, and Outlook Calendar

  • Understand and work within a person-centered approach 

  • Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to staff and client privacy

  • Ability to monitor financial accountabilities

Police Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements:

To ensure the safety of the individuals we serve, all successful candidates for this position will be required to provide a Police Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Check from their local police service. A clear Vulnerable Sector Check is a condition of employment. Any prior convictions or offenses (outside the scope of the Vulnerable Sector Check) will be assessed in accordance with applicable privacy and human rights legislation. A criminal record may be considered in the hiring decision, in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code. Applicants will have the opportunity to discuss any relevant information once the check is requested.

Work Conditions

  • May be exposed to infectious waste, communicable diseases, and other conditions

  • Interacts with clients, family members, staff, EMS, Law Enforcement, community partners, stakeholders, and local government under all circumstances

  • Exposure to traumatic situations

  • Travel is required.  Client travel in ones’ own vehicle may be required

  • Manual dexterity required to use a desktop computer and peripherals

  • Intermittent physical activity including walking, hiking, standing, sitting

  • May be exposed to environments that have cigarette smoke, drug paraphernalia or illegal substances
