Marketing & Communications Manager - Oakville & Milton Humane Society

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Marketing and Communications Manager will play a key role in communicating the Oakville & Milton Humane Society’s programs, services and objectives. This position will be responsible for the creation, management and execution of a comprehensive marketing and public relations plan. The Marketing and Communications Manager will communicate with all internal and external stakeholders, be a champion of corporate messaging, provide a voice for animal welfare issues and be an integral team member in larger scale projects for the organization. They will also be a key ambassador for OMHS, represent the society at fundraising events and excel in customer service.

REPORTS TO:  Director of Community Engagement & Communications

SUPERVISES: Communications Assistant

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Create, execute and manage the organization’s marketing and communications plan, including priorities from the strategic plan
  • Manage the department budget
  • Drive new and existing marketing and communications initiatives in conjunction with department heads, with a strong support role for fund development
  • Research, write and distribute press releases to promote the organization’s mission and services
  • Coordinate requests from media and gather information, photos or video for responses
  • Arrange and support media spokespeople with key messaging, or sometimes act as the spokesperson
  • Oversee all advertising partnerships and seek out new advertising opportunities
  • Manage and design print marketing material, ensuring all formatting, aesthetics and content are in-line with organizational standards and expectations
  • Manage marketing requests from internal departments and external stakeholders
  • Oversee the Communications Assistant and work alongside them to execute engaging digital and social media initiatives, develop/write blogs and website materials, and complete website projects
  • Manage and write internal and external e-blasts to various target audiences
  • Write articles on behalf of organization/key employees
  • Assist team in the preparation of new business materials, new business pitch and presentations
  • Manage the creation of the organization’s Annual Report
  • Coordinate, monitor and oversee editorial calendars and timelines
  • Assist departments with messaging development and distribution
  • Ensure strict adherence to brand guidelines in respect to logo use in any form
  • Work in conjunction with marketing and communications volunteers
  • Oversee the distribution of promotional materials
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The following are general descriptions of some of the requirements necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position:
  • Post-secondary education in marketing/communications or equivalent mix of job experience and schooling
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of direct public relations and marketing experience
  • Experience in animal welfare or an animal focused industry setting an asset
  • Excellent written communications skills with the ability to write for various target audiences and platforms
  • Intermediate design knowledge/experience with the ability to create and assemble attractive marketing materials
  • Intermediate digital marketing experience including email marketing
  • Intermediate experience with websites, including content management website formats
  • Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail necessary to prioritize multiple initiatives and projects
  • Demonstrate a professional level of verbal, written and listening skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and content writing skills to interact with varying levels of stakeholders including general public, donors and media personalities
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced work environment
  • Strong sense of teamwork and collaboration, with the ability to foster the same amongst volunteer teams
  • Demonstrate ability to think creatively and independently, with a strong ability to problem solve
  • Holds valid Ontario driver’s license
This position typically involves working in a shelter environment with exposure to animals of various species and sizes. It may require occasional evening, weekend, or holiday hours to accommodate the needs of the organization. The job may also involve physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
