JOB SUMMARY: 

The Marketing & Communications Coordinator plays a key role in enhancing the visibility, engagement and brand presence of the Oakville & Milton Humane Society across all communications platforms, with a key focus on digital communications. This position supports all marketing and communications efforts through website management, social media content creation, digital storytelling, graphic design, photography and multimedia design.

REPORTS TO:  Manager, Marketing & Communications

SALARY: $26.53/hr

SCHEDULE: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. As needed for events on weekends and in the evenings.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Digital Media & Content Creation

  • Develop, schedule, and publish engaging content across all OMHS social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.) using Hootsuite

  • Capture high-quality photos and videos of shelter animals, events, and day-to-day activities to support storytelling and promotional efforts

  • Design and coordinate graphics, promotional materials and signage using brand-consistent visuals for digital campaigns, events, fundraising, and educational outreach

  • Produce short videos and reels for digital campaigns and social engagement

Website Management

  • Maintain and update the OMHS website, including, but not limited to, general content, event listings, adoptable animals, blog posts, and sponsor/donor recognition

  • Ensure web content is up to date, accurate, and accessible

  • Coordinate SEO optimization and performance tracking using tools like Google Analytics

Branding & Communications

  • Support and coordinate the implementation of marketing strategies and campaigns aligned with organizational goals

  • Collaborate with internal teams to support fundraising initiatives, awareness campaigns, and public outreach

  • Ensure consistent voice, tone, and branding across all digital and print materials

  • Coordinate other projects of a branding nature

Photography & Videography

  • Capture high-quality photo and video footage of events, services and animals to assist with storytelling and sharing our service offerings with the community

  • Capture, edit and create high quality, end-product images and videos for OMHS use

  • Work with multimedia contractors to ensure OMHS photo and video needs are met

Volunteer Engagement

  • Work with multimedia volunteers to ensure OMHS photo and video needs are met

  • Supervise and interact with department volunteers, creating a welcoming and engaging environment that fosters volunteer participation

Administrative & Other Support

  • Track social media and web metrics to inform content strategy and engagement efforts, and prepare reports for internal purposes and the fund development as needed

  • Coordinate marketing materials for events and community engagement initiatives

  • Stay informed of digital trends and make recommendations to enhance OMHS’ digital presence

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The following are general descriptions of some of the requirements necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Post-secondary education in marketing, communications, digital media, graphic design, or a related field, or a combination of relevant work experience

  • 1-2 years of experience in a digital marketing or communications role is an asset (non-profit experience is a plus)

  • Proficiency with graphic design tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)

  • Experience managing websites (CMS experience/WordPress experience a plus)

  • Experience with social media scheduling tools (e.g. Hootsuite, Buffer, Sprout Social etc.)

  • Strong photography and videography skills, including basic editing

  • Excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to learn and execute the designated brand voice

  • Highly organized with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Comfortable and able to be around various animal species including cats, dogs, small animals, birds and reptiles

  • Passion for animal welfare and alignment with the mission of OMHS

  • Able to function effectively in a fast-paced work environment

  • Strong sense of teamwork and collaboration, but also able to work autonomously

  • Excellent ability to think creatively and independently, and highly capable of problem solving
