Title: Manager, Shareholder Advocacy
Status: Full-time, Permanent, Unionized
Reports to: Associate Director, Shareholder Advocacy
Location: Vancouver, BC or Toronto, ON (hybrid work arrangements)

Salary: $85,272.00 per annum, with annual increases as per our collective bargaining agreement

MAKE AN IMPACT ON INDIGENOUS RIGHTS, RECONCILIATION AND HUMAN RIGHTS INITIATIVES

In this role, you will:

  • Lead a small staff team, working within a high-impact, mission-driven organization.
  • Be at the heart of SHARE’s industry-leading ESG engagement program. You will craft and execute strategies to create transformative change in Canadian capital markets and support SHARE’s mission to build a sustainable, inclusive and productive economy;
  • You will use your advocacy prowess to drive change and lead collaborative initiatives with allied investors and advance good stewardship practices;

THE OPPORTUNITY: MANAGER, SHAREHOLDER ADVOCACY
You will be a pivotal figure in SHARE’s corporate engagement program. Some of your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating work, training and technical assistance for the Decent Work & Human Rights engagement team to maximize the effectiveness of SHARE’s program;
  • Supervising day-to-day work of a small project team;
  • Recommending company, sector and theme-specific strategies, targets, outcomes, timing, focus and activities for engagements related to Indigenous rights and reconciliation and broader human rights initiatives;
  • Planning and facilitating project team meetings and discussions;
  • Maintaining ongoing, constructive engagement relationships with company personnel, government and regulatory officials;
  • Leading collaborative work with allied investors, including developing common agendas and shared priorities;
  • Cultivating and maintain relationships with and monitoring developments from engagement partners, allied investors, funders, and relevant stakeholder groups, and experts in relevant fields;
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of emerging issues and trends related to SHARE’s thematic areas;
  • Designing and overseeing project-related research frameworks, methodology and project instructions for analysts;
  • Working collaboratively with the engagement research team to propose a research program to support new and emerging engagement objectives;
  • Ensuring that project activity is properly documented and electronic records maintained.

YOU MAY BE THE BEST PERSON FOR THE ROLE IF YOU:

  • Have experience working collaboratively with rights-holders, and particularly with Indigenous people in the Canadian context;
  • Are an action-oriented risk taker, who enjoys working on different projects at the same time
  • Thrive working independently on a variety of tasks and contributing as part of a team;
  • Are an experienced advocate, with a track-record of interest-based negotiation success;
  • Possess excellent analytical skills, political savvy, and sound judgment; 
  • Have flawless verbal and written communication skills, with a knack for delivering captivating and engaging presentations to a range of audiences;
  • Have a flexible, positive and responsive attitude, and a team-oriented approach to change-making;
  • Keep meticulous records, and possess excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to set priorities and balance competing deadlines and pressures;
  • Dig deep to find answers on environmental, social and governance issues, using your finely honed research skills.

AT A MINIMUM, YOU HAVE THESE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Master’s degree in law, finance, business, sustainability or other relevant field or equivalent related experience;
  • Three to five years of experience managing a team;
  • Five to seven years of professional experience in an advocacy, engagement, negotiation, or strategic research role;
  • Relevant work experience in a corporate setting is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of responsible investing, ESG integration or issuers’ financial and non-financial reporting obligations;
  • Strong knowledge of relevant thematic priorities, including on internationally recognized standards related to Indigenous rights in the Canadian context, and human rights.
  • Fluency in English is required. Fluency in French is a strong asset.

SOME OTHER THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT WORKING AT SHARE

  • Terms and conditions of employment are set in accordance with the SHARE-USW Collective agreement;
  • SHARE employees must be eligible to work in Canada. You must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada or authorized in writing to work in Canada under the Federal Immigration Act.
  • Full vaccination against the Covid-19 virus is required of all SHARE employees;
  • Occasional domestic and international travel may be required, including to the United States.
