Independent Contractor: Resource Coordinator (Part-Time, 9 Month Contract), ABLE2

ABLE2 is a not-for-profit charitable organization that creates opportunities for people with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives by supporting them with programs, resources, and services. Canadians who have a disability face many barriers to society, including stigma, discrimination, poverty, exclusion from education and employment, and inequities in the health care and legal systems.

Reach Canada merged with ABLE2 in 2023 and is now known as the Reach Legal Program. Its mission to foster access to justice, through educational programs and independent legal referral services remains unchanged. Working with a network of over 200 lawyers, paralegals and mediators in Ottawa and the surrounding area, the Reach Legal Program holds educational seminars on a variety of topics relating to all types of disabilities and human rights, in addition to operating a highly successful legal referral program.

With funding from The Law Foundation of Ontario, the Reach Legal Program is delivering a project focused on increasing access to justice through front-line workers over a two-year period which ends in January 2025.

ABLE2 is seeking a Resource Coordinator for 20 hours per week to complete the delivery of this project for the Reach Legal Program.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Resource Coordinator will be responsible for the development and execution of:

• Regular video conferences or in-person sessions on legal information topics directed at front-line workers to assist people with disabilities, including determining relevant subjects, format, and appropriate speakers.
• Legal resources for front-line workers including documents demonstrating when legal assistance can benefit clients.
• Standardized requests for educational seminars targeting front-line workers.
• Workshops and seminars to promote the Reach Legal Referral Program.

The duties of the Resource Coordinator will also include:

• Delivery of legal referral program
• Providing support to legal referral program volunteers as needed
• Tracking of activities related to project
• Identifying and conducting outreach to appropriate partner organizations
•  Surveying partner organizations
• Completion of quarterly reports and any additional reports as required
• Travel within Ottawa and the Champlain region as required.

Requirements

• Licensed Ontario Lawyer or Paralegal
• Bilingual (French/English)
• Experience developing and delivering educational or training programs.
• Experience with project reporting.
• Ability to work remotely and on-site as required.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
• Experience with database and spreadsheet software.
• Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) certification and additional training or knowledge of matters related to disability is an asset.
