Our Housing & Tenant Support Worker is an important contributor to our organization, supporting vulnerable adults experiencing poverty and homelessness. 

Founded in 1913, Evangel Hall Mission (EHM) is a multi-service agency that provides support to people who are experiencing homelessness and poverty. Our Residences offer permanent, independent housing to individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness or at-risk of homelessness. Tenant Support Workers establish positive relationships with a diverse tenant population including people who are at risk of homelessness, fleeing abuse, or are experiencing medical, mental health or addictions issues. The Tenant Support Worker works with tenants to overcome the various challenges that arise when living in a social housing environment. The position facilitates the development of personal support networks by utilizing supports within communities, family members, peer support initiatives, and self-help groups.

What you would bring to the role: 

• Successful completion of a community college diploma in social service work, community management, social sciences, or approved equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum of one (1) year of recent relevant experience.
• Self motivation
• Flexible team player with ability to collaborate and support others in the achievement of results.
• Planning and organizing skills with a focus on task prioritisation and a detail driven orientation.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to engage, support and educate clients from various backgrounds, including people who may be experiencing mental health crisis or the impact of navigating addictions.
• Understand and welcome diversity with an inclusive mindset.
• Employ a non-judgmental and positive approach.
• Professionalism, judgment and discretion in dealing with others within a faith based environment.
• Demonstrate personal excellence and honesty, exhibiting the highest standards of commitment and responsibility.
• Ability and skills in the areas of crisis intervention, conflict resolution, compassion, problem-solving and advocacy.
• Knowledge of social housing, service standards and principles is an asset.
• Knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act is an asset.

What we would offer (a more detailed job description will be provided when invited to interview for the role):

• You will work 37.5 hours per week, Mondays to Friday.  
• You will be based out of 163 Portland St. in downtown Toronto.
• A competitive annual salary within the range of $42,000 to $47,000.
