Harm Reduction - Project Coordinator (HRPC) - The Centre for Spanish-Speaking Peoples

The HRPC is responsible for managing all aspects of CSSP’s Harm Reduction (HR) Project. The individual must have experience working in, and preferably managing, a harm reduction program. The HRPC will conduct prevention and education outreach to a range of clients including youth, adults, clients living with HIV/AIDS and LGTBQI+ Latinx/Hispanic community in Toronto.

The HRPC will play a role in strengthening CSSP’s response to substance use in the community and increasing the level of awareness of drug prevention and harm reduction. The HRPC also works collaboratively with members of other BIPOC Harm Reduction partners, CSSP staff and volunteers to achieve the objectives of the project.

What You Will Do:

  • Manage and coordinate the delivery of workshops in areas related to harm reduction, substance use, drug prevention, and the links between substance use and the risk of HIV/AIDS.
  • Conduct outreach and facilitate partnerships with organizations serving Ontario’s Latinx/Hispanic communities and other relevant organizations such as Toronto Public Health and the Harm Reduction Task Force.
  • Train, recruit, and support volunteers.
  • Coordinate monthly drop-in sessions for the Latinx/Hispanic substance-using population.
  • Develop and produce culturally and linguistically relevant Harm Reduction promotional materials.
  • Manage client records; prepare monthly, mid-year, annual and statistical reports.
  • Attend training, network, and staff meetings.
  • Conduct a needs assessment of the Latinx/Hispanic community.
  • Collaborate with project alliance agencies and BIPOC communities to maximize and strengthen partnerships in Harm Reduction.
  • Perform other duties as required to ensure service delivery to the community.
  • Work flexible hours, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

Who You Are and What You’ve Done:

  • Degree, diploma, or certificate in Social Sciences, Public Health, Community Development, or a related field—or a combination of relevant education and experience.

  • Strong understanding of harm reduction frameworks, violence prevention, and trauma-informed approaches, particularly in the context of substance use or intimate partner violence.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of drug use, particularly injection drug use, gained through work experience, education, training, and/or lived experience.

  • Familiarity with the intersection of substance use, sexual health, and gender-based violence in diverse communities, including African, Caribbean, Black, and Hispanic/Latinx populations in Toronto.

  • Understanding of the social determinants of health and the structural factors contributing to HIV/AIDS, overdose risk, and intimate partner violence.

  • Experience in community outreach, education, and distribution of harm reduction and health promotion supplies across various neighborhoods.

  • Knowledge of local harm reduction and community-based resources, including those related to violence prevention, crisis intervention, and support services.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate volunteers in outreach, education, and community engagement initiatives.

  • Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation, including the ability to collect, manage, and analyze data to inform project planning and reporting.

  • Proficiency in designing and delivering workshops, with a sound understanding of adult education principles and culturally responsive approaches.

  • Strong commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and equity-based practices in service delivery.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Self-directed, collaborative, and able to work effectively under pressure while maintaining a positive and professional approach

What We Offer You:

  • A full-time position, working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
  • A unionized position with OPSEU Local 512.
  • A starting wage of CAD $24.08 per hour, with potential for negotiation based on relevant experience.
  • A group benefits package, including a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) match.
