Harm Reduction - Project Coordinator (HRPC) - The Centre for Spanish-Speaking Peoples
The HRPC is responsible for managing all aspects of CSSP’s Harm Reduction (HR) Project. The individual must have experience working in, and preferably managing, a harm reduction program. The HRPC will conduct prevention and education outreach to a range of clients including youth, adults, clients living with HIV/AIDS and LGTBQI+ Latinx/Hispanic community in Toronto.
The HRPC will play a role in strengthening CSSP’s response to substance use in the community and increasing the level of awareness of drug prevention and harm reduction. The HRPC also works collaboratively with members of other BIPOC Harm Reduction partners, CSSP staff and volunteers to achieve the objectives of the project.
What You Will Do:
- Manage and coordinate the delivery of workshops in areas related to harm reduction, substance use, drug prevention, and the links between substance use and the risk of HIV/AIDS.
- Conduct outreach and facilitate partnerships with organizations serving Ontario’s Latinx/Hispanic communities and other relevant organizations such as Toronto Public Health and the Harm Reduction Task Force.
- Train, recruit, and support volunteers.
- Coordinate monthly drop-in sessions for the Latinx/Hispanic substance-using population.
- Develop and produce culturally and linguistically relevant Harm Reduction promotional materials.
- Manage client records; prepare monthly, mid-year narrative, and statistical reports.
- Attend training, network, and staff meetings.
- Conduct a needs assessment of the Latinx/Hispanic community.
- Collaborate with project alliance agencies and BIPOC communities to maximize and strengthen partnerships in Harm Reduction.
- Perform other duties as required to ensure service delivery to the community.
- Work flexible hours, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
Who You Are and What You’ve Done:
- Degree/Diploma/Certificate in Social Sciences or a combination of education and experience.
- Substantial knowledge of drug use, specifically injection drug use, acquired through work experience, lived experience, training, and/or education.
- Firm understanding of Harm Reduction frameworks and knowledge of substance use in diverse African, Caribbean, and Black communities.
- Knowledge of sexual health issues and the impact of HIV/AIDS in Toronto’s Hispanic/Latinx communities.
- Knowledge of community Harm Reduction resources and supports.
- Ability to conduct outreach, education, and distribute harm reduction supplies in various neighborhoods.
- Ability to lead and motivate teams of volunteers in outreach and education.
- Experience in Harm Reduction program development, implementation, monitoring, outreach, and evaluation.
- Proficiency in designing, delivering, and evaluating workshops, with familiarity in adult education models.
- Ability to operate within an anti-racism and anti-oppression framework.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish.
- Strong organizational skills, multitasking ability, and the capacity to prioritize.
- Self-motivated and able to work effectively under pressure while maintaining a positive and professional attitude.
What We Offer You:
- A full-time position, working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
- A unionized position with OPSEU Local 512.
- A starting wage of CAD $26.14 per hour, with potential for negotiation based on relevant experience.
