The Role

The Finance Coordinator is responsible for a wide range of support activities within the Finance department, as well as ensuring the smooth and efficient running of our financial processes overall. This position will oversee and act as the main point of contact for grants management, communicating with external parties and ensuring positive, professional interactions at all times. They will also be tasked with the reconciliation of various accounts including the bank account and other clearing accounts.

We are looking for a diligent professional with keen attention to detail, accounting knowledge, and exceptional tact and diplomacy.

Your Impact
  • Ensure our financial records are accurate and up to date by reconciling bank statements weekly, investigating discrepancies, and reporting findings to the Finance Manager.
  • Oversee grant administration, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and acting as the primary liaison for external grant-related communications.
  • Support the month-end closing process by preparing and posting journal entries, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded, and assisting in the preparation of financial reports.
  • Maintain accuracy between Second Harvest’s databases (Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge) by reconciling clearing accounts regularly, identifying discrepancies, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Assist in processing bi-weekly payroll, ensuring timely and accurate payments, and resolving any payroll-related issues promptly.
  • Monitor financial discrepancies, notifying the Finance Manager of unresolved issues and providing recommendations for resolution.
  • Keep financial documents and records well-organized and up to date, ensuring easy access and compliance with record-keeping standards.
  • Assist in preparing for interim and annual financial audits by gathering necessary documentation, coordinating with auditors, and addressing any audit queries efficiently.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of financial processes and procedures, ensuring clarity, consistency, and adherence to best practices within the Finance department.
  • Support the Finance department with ad hoc requests and reports as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required/assigned to support the overall goals of the organization.

  • Relevant experience and/or education in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline, with knowledge of GAAP.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (with high proficiency in Excel). Previous experience with Financial Edge NXT, QuickBooks, or other accounting software programs would be considered an asset.
  • Organized with excellent project and time management skills. We appreciate attention to detail and the ability to prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Willing to hit the ground running, learn on the job, and resolve situations with a positive attitude.
  • Maintain a positive and respectful attitude, demonstrating integrity and confidentiality in all interactions.
