POSITION OVERVIEW

The North York Women’s Centre (NYWC) is looking for a caring, talented, and energetic contract facilitator to support in the delivery of our group learning programs.  If you’re someone committed to the principles of peer support and want to help build connected community around shared experiences, working with us might be a good fit for your values and skills! Facilitators are independent, fee-for-service contractors with appropriate training, knowledge, and experience.

We are currently expanding our group program offerings and are looking for a talented independent contractor to co-facilitate our Seniors’ Empowerment & Safety program on Thursday afternoons from 12:00-2:00pm in person.

The Seniors’ Empowerment & Safety program (SES) is a set of free gender-based violence prevention, education, and support groups designed by and for older women that will take place from September 25, 2025 – November 27, 2025. This 10-week program uses a trauma-informed approach in order to engage participants in conversation about healthy relationships while increasing social networks, and building knowledge of support services and how to access them.

NYWC was established in 1988 with a vision of a world in which all doors are open for all women.  As part of a collection of women’s centres across Ontario and the only centre serving North York and central Toronto, our mission is to advance equality and to support all women and gender-diverse people, wherever they are on their journey, to unlock their potential and empower themselves to build a braver, more equitable world. We welcome all women and gender-diverse people into our circle of care and peer support.  Our programming is innovative, person-centred, and responsive to the needs of the women we see.

Our Programs and Services include:

Group Programming – free 10-week modules to build skills for interpersonal relationships, fostering self-esteem, or for pursuing a new career or education opportunity

One-on-One Peer Support – free confidential support from a trained member of our team to find resources, make a plan, or to find a soft place to land

Drop-In Programming – weekly free drop-in sessions to connect with and learn alongside other women and gender-diverse people in welcoming, casual environment
North York Women’s Centre relies on a pool of contract facilitators to support delivery of its group programs. Successful candidates will form part of our roster and will be considered for regular facilitation opportunities throughout the year.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Attend and participate in orientation meetings to prepare for facilitation of NYWC group programs
  • Plan, prepare and deliver co-facilitated weekly group sessions in line with Seniors’ Empowerment & Safety program curricula and program goals and objectives
  • Provide participants with appropriate assistance, information, follow up and referral as needed
  • Maintain timely and accurate records of participant outcomes, attendance and interactions
  • Participate in program evaluation activities and support collection of program outcome data
  • Participate in program-related discussions with NYWC staff as required and/or when requested
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
  • Relevant education, training and/or experience in social work, adult education, life skills facilitation or equivalent
  • Ideally, a minimum 1-year experience in facilitating group discussions and meetings
  • Knowledge and expertise in the topics of: intimate partner violence, family violence, and gender-based violence as it affects older women, preferred
  • Strong understanding of challenges and barriers faced by women and gender-diverse people, including gender-based violence
  • Ability to work within a feminist, anti oppressive, anti racist, intersectional, and trauma informed environment
  • Commitment to diversity and experience working with populations facing intersecting barriers
  • Team player with a proven track record in building strong, positive professional relationships
  • Integrity, sound judgment, tact, discretion and a healthy sense of humour
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check (costs reimbursed by NYWC)
Priority will be given to candidates with lived experience of gender-based violence, older women who can bring their lived experience and insights, and candidates from equity-seeking populations.

WHAT WE WILL PROVIDE
  • Deliverables based compensation, at a rate of $2,695.00 (plus applicable HST) for the entire 10-week module
