Your opportunity:

Under the general supervision of the Team Lead - Career Supports, and in collaboration with tri-campus career centre colleagues, you will build and cultivate relationships with employers, alumni and campus partners. This includes providing outstanding service delivery to professionals across a wide spectrum of industry sectors, by ascertaining both their immediate and long-term needs. Your key focus is to increase co-curricular experiential learning opportunities for UTSC students for the purposes of career, education and employment development.

Independently, and in consultation with other units at University of Toronto Scarborough and tri-campus partners, you will promote and deliver co-curricular experiential learning programs. This will include the organization of job shadowing and industry site visits for students and recent graduates, take the lead on the annual Experiential Fair and be the campus representative for the work-study program. This will involve making recommendations and assisting with program development, including contributing to the development of appropriate learning outcomes, targeted marketing outreach, using survey tools to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of services and events. In addition, you will assist with networking events and career panels, as well as support AA&CC events, activities and programming. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Analyzing potential experiential learning opportunities to determine suitability with student academic learning objectives
  • Identifying, fostering and maintaining relationships with potential and existing employers (liaising to facilitate and initiate outreach/experiential learning opportunities)
  • Developing components of learning support programs (including developing content and evaluating learning outcomes) and iImplementing program improvements and maintenance of program standards (including recommendations for programming enhancements)
  • Implementing programs to foster students’ individual career development process
  • Conducting a detailed analysis of student feedback and learning outcomes to inform program planning activities
  • Overseeing and implementing activities that support educational initiatives and detailed information to hosts on how to lead appropriate learning opportunities for students
  • Promoting programming, student needs and interests to employers and industry contacts
  • Keeping well-informed on labour market, occupational and educational trends

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in a university/college career centre, co-op or recruitment setting, conceptualizing, developing and maintaining learning support programs, including developing learning outcomes, reflection exercises and evaluation tools; fostering employer relationships, including active outreach and support
  • Experience managing effective relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders (including employers, alumni, students, staff and faculty)
  • Experience in employer development and knowledge of best-practices; developing, coordinating and implementing large scale programs
  • Proven ability to handle a variety of projects, deadlines and schedules simultaneously and independently prioritize own work flow
  • Strong relationship cultivation, building and management skills
  • Excellent organizational, project management and time management skills to cope with multiple projects and events occurring within short and overlapping time periods
  • Able to manage conflicting demands, and able to work well under pressure
  • Strong facilitation, presentation and public speaking skills
  • Customer service-oriented
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and ability to source information and data using the Internet and social media sites such as LinkedIn
  • Strong written communication skills (e.g. report writing; drafting content for marketing materials) and the ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with a diverse university student population in order to meet the needs of students.
  • Broad knowledge of labour market trends
  • Solid understanding of student and career development theories and in particular, and experiential learning models
