Position: Executive Director, 15-Month Contract (Maternity Leave Assignment)
Location: Toronto, ON
Reports To: Board of Directors 

The Opportunity

 Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Interim Executive Director will oversee all areas of organizational operations, including fundraising, partnerships, marketing, programs, and people, while ensuring strong alignment with our mission and three-year strategic plan.

Core Responsibilities

Organizational & Team Leadership:
  • Guide the implementation of Hackergal’s strategic plan and drive key initiatives and innovation forward.
  • Provide day-to-day operational oversight across departments, ensuring alignment between strategy and execution.
  • Foster a high-performing, inclusive team culture rooted in Hackergal’s core values.Mentor and support staff stepping into interim or acting roles during this transitional period.
  • Oversee program delivery and ensure alignment with funder expectations, Key Performance Indicatorss, and impact measurement goals.
  • Support operational excellence through communications, people practices, and digital tools.
  • Ensure strong financial management, legal compliance, and risk oversight.
  • Leverage digital learning tools to support the growth and accessibility of Hackergal Hub and curriculum offerings.
Partnerships:
  • Lead and execute a fundraising strategy to meet annual targets.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with corporate, foundation, and government funders.
  • Represent Hackergal externally and champion donor stewardship.
  • Ensure fiscal responsibility, budget management, and grant compliance.
Governance & Transition:
  • Act as primary liaison to the Board of Directors, preparing materials and leading strategic updates.
  • Maintain institutional knowledge and support documentation of key decisions.
  • Ensure a smooth and thoughtful handoff to the incoming permanent Executive Director, including knowledge transfer and continuity planning.

What You’ll Bring:

  • A deep commitment to Hackergal’s mission and equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • Senior leadership experience in the non-profit, education, or social impact sector.
  • A track record of fundraising success and partnership development, including public sector engagement. Strong financial oversight, governance understanding, and experience working closely with boards.
  • Empathetic and collaborative leadership style with strong coaching and communication skills.
  • Experience navigating change, leading cross-functional teams, and supporting staff development.
  • Comfort with participatory operational leadership and fast-paced environments.
  • Familiarity with digital learning tools, platforms, or curriculum delivery is an asset.
  • A demonstrated commitment to anti-racism, equity, and decolonizing practices, with an understanding of how these values apply to leadership, philanthropy, and programming.

Additional Details:

  • Flexible work schedule; evening/weekend availability may be required.
  • Travel required for Hackergal events and national initiatives.
  • A proactive and participatory leadership approach.

Success in this Role:

The successful candidate will respectfully step into this role to maintain and strengthen Hackergal’s financial and operational health, deepen stakeholder engagement across sectors, and raise the organization’s national profile during a maternity leave coverage. They will be a visible and trusted leader, ensuring Hackergal delivers on its strategic plan as well as all key performance indicators and inspires confidence among funders, donors, partners, team members, and the Board of Directors. A structured onboarding process and transition plan will be provided by the current Executive Director to ensure a smooth handover and strong foundation for success.

Salary:

100,000-120,000 CAD per annum (will reflect experience)
