Our organization:

CoDevelopment Canada (CoDev) is a Vancouver-based non-profit that works for social justice in the Americas. We build partnerships with labour unions and civil society organizations in Canada and in Latin America to protect workers’ rights, strengthen public education, foster gender equity, strengthen grassroots initiatives, engage Canadians in global issues, and promote fair trade and community development.

We are looking for an acting Executive Director to join our staff team.

Full-time (37.5 hours per week). Start date is June 24, 2024. Starting annual salary is $77,089.66 ($39.53 hourly), plus generous vacation and benefits package. This is a unionized position. Terms and conditions as per the COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT between CODEVELOPMENT CANADA and CANADIAN UNION OF PUBLIC EMPLOYEES, LOCAL 1004.

Job Summary:

The Executive Director coordinates the staff team and is the primary representative of CoDevelopment Canada to other organizations.  The Executive Director is also the primary liaison between the CoDev Board of Directors and staff. This is an on-site position. Regular domestic travel and irregular work hours are required.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordination of CoDev’s operations: This includes coordination and supervision of the staff team for effective implementation of CoDev's mandate and of human resources matters, such as work assignments, schedules, staff evaluations, approval of professional development, and coordination of vacation scheduling.
  • As primary liaison with CoDev’s Board of Directors, the Executive Director works closely with the organization’s Executive and Personnel Committees.
  • External Relations: The Executive Director is responsible for representing CoDev before different government bodies, in the various coalitions to which CoDev belongs, and in relations with other organizations addressing similar issues.
Qualifications:
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
  • University degree in a related area or equivalent related experience
  • Ability to work irregular hours, as needed, and travel within Canada
  • Human Resources and supervisory experience in a unionized workplace
  • Language proficiency in written and spoken English and Spanish
  • Experience in project management, grant applications, and report writing
  • Experience with and knowledge of the structure, function, and objectives of the Canadian labour movement
  • Related work experience in Latin America or with a Latin American focus, with particular experience working in international solidarity and on human rights and social justice issues

  • Historical, cultural, and social awareness of Latin America, with a particular focus on labour rights, human rights, and women’s rights organizations and issues
  • Excellent understanding of international solidarity and development issues, especially as they relate to gender, class, and intersectionality
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to intersectional feminist, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive principles, including how they intersect with international solidarity
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on cultural sensitivity
  • Tactful, responsive, and respectful communication with partners in Canada and in Latin America, with a mindset of building long-term relationships for ongoing solidarity work
  • Valid B.C. driver’s licence an asset
