Position Summary
The Emergency Food Services Driver position ensures that the efficient pick-up and delivery of food from community partners is executed in a safe and efficient manner. The Driver serves as an ambassador for Neighbour to Neighbour exemplifying behavior and interactions with absolute courtesy in accordance with the Centre’s values of respect, dignity, integrity and accountability.

Key Role Responsibilities
- Conduct daily scheduled pickup and delivery of Foodbank donations and materials according to health and safety guidelines.
- Demonstrate effective time management and organization in planning routes for maximum efficiency.
- Perform complete circle check/inspection logs of the assigned truck at the beginning of each shift to ensure vehicle safety.
- Report any maintenance or safety issues to the Director of Emergency Food Services.
- Be responsible for loading donations from all food donors and unloading product at both warehouses which may include manual lifting, “hand-bombing” and Reach forklift duties.
- Maintain outside receiving area at both warehouses - ensure pallets are away from the stairs for easy egress from the building (see cone placement) and clear boxes and debris from receiving area at end of day.
- Coordinate the consistent logistical distribution of overflow food donations from our secondary warehouse.
- Maintain a high level of customer service with all community stakeholders (food donors and community organizations).
- Report directly to the Director of Emergency Food Services in scheduling daily routes and tasks.
- Check in with Director of Emergency Food Services throughout the day for updates and amend route plan accordingly.
- Provide support to warehouse volunteers in managing inventory, stocking the Foodbank, and maintaining a safe and efficient storage facility for donated products.
- Promptly notify Director of Emergency Food of any issues related to inventory, warehouse, or volunteers.
- Update Director of Emergency Food Services on donor interaction, collection sites and issues related to donors.
- Work with Director of Emergency Food Services to develop strategies for increasing food donations from existing and new donors.
- Conduct home deliveries as needed (in absence of volunteer drivers) and as directed in support of the Home Delivery program.
- Ensure confidentiality, privacy, dignity and respect for all Home Delivery clients.
- Provide logistical support (including forklift operations) to all programs and staff as directed.
- Participate in on-going training as directed by Director of Emergency Food Services.
- Complete other duties as required.
- Participate as a Team member
- Participate in cross-functional teams as required.
- Work with other staff and volunteers to ensure optimum use of resources for the betterment of the Centre.
- Experienced driver of an extended vehicle and a 22-foot heavy truck
- Valid DZ driver’s license and a minimum of 5 years’ DZ experience and a clean driver’s abstract
- Ability to perform driver pick-up and delivery functions, and associated record-keeping.
- Experienced Forklift Driver (Reach type), certificate required
- Warehouse co-ordination and logistics experience
- Hamilton driver knowledge, and the GTA (Toronto, Southwest Ontario)
- Excellent customer service, effective communication and interpersonal skills, as well as strong conflict resolution and negotiation abilities
- Excellent time management skills
- Physically able to climb in and out of the truck, lifting up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis throughout the day.
- Experience in the social services sector would be an asset
- Food Handling certificate would be an asset.
- Ability and physical stamina to lift assorted sizes of boxes
- Lifting up to 50 lbs. on a repeated basis
- Driving, repetitive lifting and bending, climbing in and out of a vehicle regularly
