Driver - Weekend Relief - Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre
Availability: Saturday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Hourly Rate: $22.31/ hour
Position Overview
The Food Services Support and Delivery Driver position will assist as needed with the transportation and support activities on scheduled delivery of prepared meals and other necessary items to multiple sites in and across the City of Toronto. This requires reliable and experienced driver operators who are expected to drive with a high level of skill and safety adhering at all times to Agency policies and procedures, health and safety regulations and of course compliance with Municipal By-Laws and the Ontario Highway Traffic Act. All Drivers are to provide courteous, professional, customer-oriented service to all sites and ensure smooth transition and delivery of meals and supplies necessary to ensure food safety and quality while in transit and during delivery, and to help ensure the food and nutrition programs are able to meet the needs of our vulnerable clients. This job includes tasks including purchasing of goods and transportation of donated items.
This is a bargaining unit position.
Essential Job Tasks
- Provide deliveries and transportation of prepared meals and/or supplies, as directed, in accordance with the route(s) provided and on time/schedule.
- Respond in a courteous and professional manner to site-specific needs on delivery.
- Ensure that you are familiar with the route(s) and schedule(s).
- Advise management and any affected site(s) of any route and/or schedule adjustments where delays and/or unforeseen circumstances necessitate any changes.
- Ensure and keep assigned vehicle tidy and sanitary to an acceptable standard during assigned shift.
- Report any delays, mechanical problems and accidents immediately.
- Comply with the Highway Traffic Act (Ontario) and regulations including, but not limited to, the performance of daily pre-trip inspections.
- Comply with Municipal bylaws including, but not limited to, the idling of vehicle, parking regulations and smoking.
- Maintain a positive public perception by driving responsibly, courteously to other motorists and driving safely at all times.
- Participate in ongoing training.
- Participate actively in team meetings and contribute to problem-solving, progress reporting, documentation, tracking and submitting receipts from purchases.
- Performance planning, to achieve the highest standards of program delivery.
- Support cross-departmental collaboration, contribute with enthusiasm to agency initiatives, and embody the values of CONC as part of our unique communities.

- Other duties as may be assigned. In between deliveries these duties may not include duties that are normally part of a Driver position.
- A valid Class G (unrestricted) drivers license in Ontario.
- Clear drivers abstract (or one acceptable to the employer).
- A minimum of three (3) years’ professional driving experience, preferably with a van, cube truck or larger vehicle.
- Knowledge of vehicle checklists and documentation requirements.
- Experience delivering goods, preferably perishable and prepared food items and supplies.
- Ability to transport, shuffle and secure goods and food transit containers for transportation.
- Ability to read maps and plan alternate routing as road conditions may require.
- Ability to drive a van or cube truck safely using defensive driving skills.
- Experience in the non-profit sector and shelter/housing sector an asset.
- Skilled in organization of work, time management, oral and written communication, documentation skills and basic financial tracking.
