Driver and Cook, Food and Nutrition Programs - Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre
Position Overview:
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Driving Duties:
• Provide transportation and delivery of prepared meals and supplies to designated sites, following scheduled routes and times.
• Conduct daily pre-trip vehicle inspections, maintaining cleanliness and sanitary conditions in the vehicle.
• Ensure timely and professional communication with management and site staff in case of delays or adjustments.
• Adhere to Municipal Bylaws, the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, and agency policies, including responsible vehicle operation and parking regulations.
• Report mechanical issues, delays, or accidents immediately.
• Participate in training sessions and team meetings related to driving duties and safety.
Cooking Duties:
• Prepare and serve nutritious meals for residents and program participants as directed by food service management.
• Assist in all aspects of food preparation, including cleaning, chopping, cooking, portioning, and serving food.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, counters, and workspaces.
• Ensure proper food storage by rotating stock and checking temperatures of refrigerators and freezers.
• Manage food waste and leftovers according to agency guidelines, ensuring proper disposal or storage.
• Wash and sanitize all dishes, utensils, and kitchen tools.
• Support kitchen staff with meal service during busy periods, including setting up and clearing the dining area.
General Duties:
• Collaborate with the food service and driving teams to ensure smooth transitions between duties.
• Provide excellent customer service to both internal teams and external partners at delivery sites.
• Adhere to agency health and safety standards and food safety regulations.
• Attend staff meetings and training as required.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors to ensure the efficient operation of food and nutrition programs. Qualifications
• A valid Class G (unrestricted) driver’s license in Ontario, with a clear driving abstract.
• A minimum of three (3) years of professional driving experience, preferably delivering perishable goods.
• Experience in a professional kitchen environment, preparing meals for large groups.
• Knowledge of food safety, WHMIS, and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
• Ability to lift and transport food containers and other supplies as required.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Experience in a nonprofit or social services setting is an asset.
