Position Overview:

The Director of Finance and People Development is responsible for leading and managing the organization's financial stewardship to ensure fiscal responsibility in changing economic conditions and maintaining financial readiness. This role is a catalyst for business and philanthropic transformation, linking strategic objectives with the organization's financial goals.

As the Director of Finance & People Development you will be responsible for:
  • Providing mentoring and leadership to Human Resources, Payroll, and Finance teams to build a culture of teamwork and innovation.
  • Provide HR leadership and expertise to the teams in relation to all people matters in support of their operational goals. This includes recruiting, retention, disability management, people development and succession planning.

  • Attending and actively participating in leadership meetings, Board of Directors’ meetings, strategic planning sessions, and more.
  • Identifying and addressing financial risks and opportunities for the organization.
  • Developing guidelines for CEO and Senior Leadership review of accounting practices and policies.
  • Remaining informed of government and industry policy changes that govern financial operations and charitable requirements to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Implementing, interpreting, and policing accounting, regulatory, and funder-developed practices and policies.
  • Overseeing monthly and annual financial reporting, account analysis and benchmark analytics for senior leader financial reports and statistical analysis of operations.
  • Preparation and support of grant funding and the enterprise risk management portfolio.
  • Managing the analysis and presentation of financial results, identifying key performance drivers, and proposing strategies and tactics to optimize value and support the achievement of business objectives.
  • Ensuring the development and maintenance of a financial and accounting system that systematically and accurately records and reports all financial transactions in accordance with all legal regulatory requirements.
  • Other duties as required.
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Minimum 10 years experience with 5 being in a senior level financial and HR operations role.
  • Minimum university degree in an applicable field (Accounting, Finance, Industrial Relations, Human Resources).
  • Professional accounting designation is required (CPA CA, CPA CMA, or CPA CGA).
  • Previous accounting experience working in a not-for-profit organization or charity is required.
  • A strong ability to translate financial reports/results into actionable items.
  • Self-motivated and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to solve problems using a creative approach.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders.
