Position Overview:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Director of Development plays a pivotal role in advancing the organization’s strategic fundraising goals. This position provides leadership and oversight in planning and executing capital campaigns, donor engagement, grant acquisition, and community partnerships.

The Director of Development is responsible for cultivating and stewarding relationships with individuals, corporations, foundations, and public partners. They also lead fundraising initiatives, oversee gift processing and donor data integrity, and ensure the organization’s fundraising practices align with current trends and best practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee strategic fundraising plans to support Bennett Village’s operational needs and future growth.
  • Lead all aspects of capital and annual giving campaigns, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and best practices.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and community stakeholders, including government and healthcare partners.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Fundraising Campaign Team, volunteers, and staff to ensure effective execution of fundraising strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Coordinator to design and deliver engaging donor communications, marketing materials, and campaign promotions.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of donor data and gift processing, including receipting, database maintenance, and reporting.
  • Monitor and analyze fundraising performance metrics, donor trends, and campaign results to optimize fundraising strategies and inform decision-making.
  • Oversee grant research, writing, submissions, and reporting, ensuring timely follow-ups and compliance with funder requirements.
  • Serve as an ambassador for Bennett Village at community events, presentations, and public speaking engagements.
  • Work with the CEO to establish, manage, and report on the annual fundraising budget and related revenue goals.
  • Support financial reconciliation activities in coordination with the Finance Department, addressing variances and maintaining transparency.
  • Promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization by encouraging donor stewardship and staff engagement in fundraising efforts.
  • Ensure alignment with relevant legislative, ethical, and policy standards governing charitable fundraising and donor engagement.
  • Contribute to strategic planning initiatives, providing insights and recommendations to the CEO and Board of Directors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Non-Profit Management, Business Administration, Communications, or Marketing.
  • A minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in fundraising, development, philanthropy, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of donor database systems and gift processing procedures (experience with Donor Perfect considered an asset).
  • A current police vulnerable sector screening (VSS) and proof of full COVID-19 vaccination are required.
  • Completion of a two-step TB test is mandatory prior to start date.
