Calgary Public Teachers (ATA Local 38) is seeking a part-time (0.5FTE) permanent Digital Communications Officer who will plan, create, and coordinate the Local’s social media content for a variety of applications and create digital content for distribution electronically to members of the Local and the general public. The role involves engaging with the Local’s audience, enhancing the organization’s digital presence, and contributing to strategic communication goals. Additionally, the Officer carries out special projects and other duties as assigned to support the organization’s objectives.
Reporting to the President, the Digital Communications Officer will also work closely with Chairs of Local Committees.
The Local is seeking applicants with proven commitment to public education; excellent skills in communications; and proficiency in a variety of graphic design & video editing software, along with deep familiarity with major social media platforms. Applicants should hold a post-secondary certificate in graphic design, digital communication, content creation, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field can be helpful but is not always required. A minimum of one year of experience as a content creator in an office or graphic design environment is required, although equivalent experience such as managing a personal or freelance social media portfolio may be considered. This position offers some flexibility for working from home or remote locations, but on-site work will be a regular requirement. Work hours have some flexibility and may change on a week-to-week basis. Some limited evening and/or weekend work may be required on rare occasions. There is a possibility of this position expanding to a larger FTE in future years.
This position is classified as a Support Staff D1 placement on the salary grid in the Local Operations Manual with a starting salary of $54,185 (prorated by FTE). Total compensation for this position includes a health and dental benefits package. This position is eligible for participation in the Office Staff Pension Plan.
