As a member of the People and Culture team, the Coordinator, Volunteer Engagement helps to make this happen through the creation, oversight, and promotion of inclusive volunteer opportunities. The Coordinator, Volunteer Engagement, is a detail-oriented team-player; a strong communicator who provides consistent, timely support to others and who sees how small details shape the big picture. The ideal candidate for this role takes pride in performing administrative tasks in support of our volunteer engagement strategy and is motivated by the prospect of building lasting connections and impact with our network of 1000+ volunteers, co-op placements, and interns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the volunteer recruitment process, from role development and promotion through to screening and onboarding.
  • Help develop meaningful and mutually beneficial volunteer opportunities to advance our strategy and build organizational impact. 
  • Provide support and mentorship to Team Leads across the organization helping to build their volunteer engagement skills to ensure best-in-class volunteer experiences.
  • Help to onboard and train volunteers, ensuring they feel informed and confident in their roles.
  • Act as the first point of contact for general enquiries about volunteer opportunities, internships, and student placements.
  • Help to ensure accurate and organized record keeping for the volunteer program.
  • Keep track of volunteer hours and contributions, supporting recognition events and perks distribution.
  • Provide regular on-the-ground support for orientations and special events with a high volume of volunteers.
  • Assist with volunteer communication, both in respect to organization wide newsletters and day-to-day outreach.
  • Provide general support within the People & Culture team, including assisting with culture building activities, staff volunteer opportunities, all-hands meetings and gatherings.
  • Provide excellent customer service to staff and volunteers, working collaboratively across the organization.

You have the following qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience working directly with volunteers or working in a non-profit environment with good exposure to a volunteer program.
  • Previous experience in an environment with a high volume of volunteers is a significant asset.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating and leading/creating engaging connection points with staff and volunteers.
  • Strong networking and people skills with an ability to build positive culture.,
  • Strong computer skills. Experience with Wrike and Better Impact (volunteer database) would be an asset.
  • Highly organized and self-motivated.
  • Able to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Team oriented, flexible and adaptable; and
  • Able to work equally well independently and with others.

Additional Information:

Reporting Relationships:

  • Supervised by: Manager, People & Culture

Working Conditions:

  • Position is based out of Evergreen’s head office at Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto with flexibility to work both at the office and from home. 
  • On the ground presence at Evergreen Brick Works will be required on a regular basis, particularly to support in-person orientations and special events involving volunteers.
  • Regular office hours are flexible, but work may include some weekends, holidays and/or evenings.

Contract:

  • Permanent, full time
  • Target Hire Rate: $50,000 - $54,000 annually
  • Employer-paid health and dental benefits package, 3 weeks paid vacation, 3 personal days (aka Evergreen Days) and your birthday off, and professional development opportunities.
