SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Content and Creative Specialist will work in close collaboration with other Oxfam Canada staff to produce compelling content and stories to demonstrate Oxfam Canada’s value and impact and inspire the public to support us. As a passionate communicator, the Content and Creative Specialist is responsible for developing our content strategy, and produce stories in various formats for different channels to engage and mobilize a variety of audiences around Oxfam’s mission and vision. The Content and Creative Specialist will be a key contributor to raising awareness around the injustice of poverty and inequality, encourage engagement, deepen Oxfam’s value proposition and inspire philanthropic giving.
Reporting to the Manager, Communications, they will contribute to the organization’s broader communications goals as outlined in the Communications Strategy. They will help steward the Oxfam brand in Canada and contribute to the development of effective communications products that engages our key stakeholders. Strong storytelling, design, digital and editing skills are principal requirements of this role.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: (This is not an exhaustive list of duties to be performed)
Strategy, Planning and Execution:
- Leads development and execution of annual content strategy, in line with Oxfam Canada’s communications strategy and public engagement strategy
- Leads conceptualization and execution of content collection strategy and maintains digital asset management system
- Leads conceptualization and production of creative assets and content (i.e. blogs and stories, campaign branding, photo essays, video production, multi-media/interactive stories)
- Participates in planning sessions with cross-department stakeholders to develop marketing, communications, outreach and advocacy plans and products
- Liaises with other teams, working groups and units within Oxfam Canada, ensuring communication, engagement and support is provided as required
- Promotes and advocates for an integrated, multi-channel marketing communications approach across the organization
- Contributes to strategies that increase Oxfam’s supporter base
- Provides support to revenue generating activities
- Leads special projects as required
- Stewards Oxfam’s brand
Communications Materials Production:
- Produces compelling content for key target audiences (new and existing supporters, government officials, advocates, donors, partners) and for various communications channels (web, social media, print, emails)
- Produces blogs and stories and annual report
- Creates social media creative assets
- Develops content to showcase Oxfam Canada’s anti-racism, JEDI and decolonization work
- Develops graphics, infographs, brochures and other materials as needed, consistent with the Oxfam brand and leveraging the global toolkit
- Creates and/or edits videos and other multi-media products
- Serves as social media spokesperson for Oxfam Canada
- Provides digital support in website maintenance and social media
- Provides editing support by reviewing materials prepared by others, upon request
- Stays abreast of current trends and best practices in public communications and marketing
Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning:
- Monitors the external environment and contributes to the evaluation of outcomes of communications and outreach activities, providing recommendations and refining plans and strategies as required
- Ensures tracking, evaluation and reporting on Oxfam Canada’s marketing and communications programs
- Contributes to the development and monitoring of marketing and communications budgets
- Where relevant, manages communications and marketing consultants and contracts
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES:
- University degree in communications, journalism, graphic design, or equivalent combination of experience and education
- 7 years of demonstrated experience in digital journalism/production, including the production and presentation of multi-platform content (photography, video, online, social media, audio) preferably in a not-for-profit environment
- Proven experience in developing communications strategies targeting various platforms
- Track record in producing a variety of creative content, including written, visuals, photography, video
- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and commitment to global justice, social change, women’s rights and gender equality
- Proven track record in social media, blogging and/or campaigning
- Demonstrated experience with print production, advertising, experience with direct mail and e-commerce an asset
- Comfortable being a face for an organization and appearing in front of camera
- Exceptional English verbal and written communication skills; French and Spanish an asset
- Experience working in cross-cultural settings, e.g. country staff, partners including in humanitarian settings Strong collaboration skills and experience in working in a matrix environment
- Positive track record in building and maintaining respectful and effective relationships with senior managers and staff and vendors
- Ability to travel, including in humanitarian settings
- Experience working with multiple third party contractors, agencies and service providers
- Knowledge of fundraising principles or fundraising experience an asset.
- Proficiency in multi-media products, software and design applications.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize work and manage multiple projects with high efficiency, accuracy and enthusiasm.
- Demonstrated commitment to feminism, anti-racism, justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Willingness to sign and abide by Oxfam’s Code of Conduct.
