Migrant Workers Centre (MWC) is seeking a part-time Communications Coordinator to help raise public awareness about the experiences of migrant workers, promote our services, and ensure timely, effective communication with the migrant worker community and our partner organizations.

About MWC

Migrant Workers Centre (MWC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting access to justice for migrant workers by providing legal services, education, advocacy, and policy reform. We work to support the rights and wellbeing of migrant workers through trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approaches.

Context for the role

The Communications Coordinator will work closely with our Director of Operations to define and implement MWC’s communications strategy. This role is ideal for a communications professional with strong writing skills and the ability to manage multiple platforms, working independently and collaboratively with a small and dedicated team.

This is a part-time position (2 days per week / 0.4 FTE) and will be based in our Vancouver office, with the option of working remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage MWC’s social media presence, including creating and scheduling content on Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • Design promotional materials, including event posters, information sheets, and digital graphics, using tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
  • Maintain and update content on MWC’s website (WordPress), including news, resources, and events
  • Draft and distribute a regular email newsletter using Mailchimp or similar platforms
  • Collaborate with program staff to support outreach campaigns and the development of communications materials in plain language
  • Ensure consistency in MWC’s messaging, visual identity, and branding across all materials and platforms
  • Support communications for fundraising initiatives and media relations as needed

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in communications, social media management, or digital marketing, preferably in the non-profit or charitable sector
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a demonstrated ability to tailor messaging for different audiences and channels
  • Proficiency in using social media scheduling tools (e.g., Buffer, Hootsuite), email campaign tools (e.g., Mailchimp), and design tools (e.g., Canva or Adobe InDesign)
  • Familiarity with website content management systems (e.g., WordPress)
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
  • Demonstrated commitment to anti-oppression and social justice principles
  • Knowledge of Spanish or Tagalog is an asset
  • Experience working with or alongside migrant worker communities is an asset.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is between $26 to $32 per hour, commensurate with skills and experience. The position guarantees 15 hours of work per week. MWC will continue seeking additional funding to increase capacity in our Communications department.
