SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Communications and Social Media Officer is responsible for growing and engaging our social media audience working across multiple platforms. They will create communication materials, and multimedia content that inspire and mobilize diverse audiences around Oxfam’s mission and vision. The Communications and Social Officer will work to raise awareness around the injustice of poverty and inequality, encourage engagement, deepen Oxfam’s value proposition, and inspire action among existing supporters and the public.

Reporting to the Manager, Communications, the Communications and Social Media Officer will work in collaboration with the Communications team and other cross-functional teams to align with the organization’s broader marketing-communications goals, while taking a supporter centric approach and leveraging innovative digital best practices.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: (This is not an exhaustive list of duties to be performed)

Strategy, Planning and Execution:

  • Develop and implement a social media strategy across multiple platforms to enhance Oxfam’s visibility, brand awareness, and audience growth through engaging multi-media content.
  • Collaborate in planning sessions with cross-department stakeholders to develop marketing, communications, outreach and advocacy plans, and relevant products to highlight our programs, campaigns, and thought leadership;
  • Contribute to strategies that: increase Oxfam’s supporter base, increase brand visibility and deepen engagement of existing supporters;
  • Lead on engaging social media influencers and brand ambassadors;
  • Monitor the external environment to inform and refine our social media strategies and multimedia content, aligning with current trends and best practices in marketing, digital marketing, e-commerce and e-philanthropy, ensuring Oxfam’s content remains innovative and effective;
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of communications and multimedia outreach activities, providing insights and recommendations for improvement; Oversee special projects as required, ensuring alignment with Oxfam’s mission and communications goals.

Multimedia Asset Development and Writing:

  • Lead the creation of multimedia content (video, graphics, visuals, copy) that supports Oxfam’s campaigns, programs, and brand, ensuring a cohesive and impactful public presence;
  • Develop compelling multimedia content for key target audiences (Gov’t officials, advocates, donors, partners) and for various communications channels (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter/X, YouTube, TikTok);
  • Design and produce videos, reels graphics, infographics, brochures and other multimedia materials as needed, consistent with the Oxfam brand;
  • Manage relationships with third-party multimedia contractors, agencies, and service providers, ensuring high-quality deliverables;
  • Provide editing support by reviewing materials prepared by others, upon request;
  • Create central corporate communications assets to champion and demonstrate effective brand use and engage supporters and the public;
  • Other duties as required.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • 3-5 years of communications, digital media, graphic design and multimedia production, preferably in a not-for-profit environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and commitment to global justice, social change, women’s rights and gender equality.
  • Proven expertise in social media strategy, multimedia content creation, and digital campaigning;
  • Proficiency in graphic design, video production, and multimedia editing software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, Canva).
  • Proficiency in managing all social media channels, including social media management software (e.g. Hootsuite, Meltwater)
  • Skilled in using all social media channels for engagement, taking into account audience segments and look-alike strategies;
  • Ability to stay atop digital trends, quickly learn new web tools and adapt to emerging multimedia technologies;
  • Exceptional English verbal and written communication skills; French an asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team, in a self-directed manner, to prioritize and manage workloads in a fast-paced environment.
  • Positive track record in building and maintaining respectful and effective relationships with managers, staff and volunteers.
  • Experience working with multiple third-party contractors, agencies and service providers
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles or fundraising experience an asset.
  • Proficiency in multimedia products, software and design applications. Knowledge of SalesForce and Engaging Networks would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize work and manage multiple projects with high efficiency, accuracy and enthusiasm.
  • Demonstrated commitment to feminism, anti-racism, justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.
